Sacred Evil (Krewe of Hunters Book 3) Kindle Edition
|New from||Used from|
The details of the crime scene are no coincidence. The body—a promising starlet—has been battered, bloodied and then discarded between two of Manhattan’s oldest graveyards.
One look and Detective Jude Crosby recognizes the tableau: a re-creation of Jack the Ripper’s gruesome work. But he also sees something beyond the actions of a mere copycat. Something more dangerous…and unexplainable.
As the city seethes with suspicion, Jude calls on Whitney Tremont, a member of the country’s preeminent paranormal investigating team, to put the speculation to rest. Yet when Whitney and Jude delve deeper, what they discover is more shocking than either could have predicted, and twice as sinister…

"Graham wields a deftly sexy and convincing pen."
"An incredible storyteller."
-Los Angeles Daily News
"There are good reasons for Graham's steady standing as a bestselling author. Here her perfect pacing keeps readers riveted as they learn fascinating tidbits of New Orleans history. The paranormal elements are integral to the unrelentingly suspenseful plot, the characters are likable, the romance convincing and, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Graham's atmospheric depiction of a lost city is especially poignant."

Hmm... I'm not sure where to even start with this review because this was a strange book for me. I just didn't find it very exciting and actually took me three tries before I was finally able to finish it. I will admit that once I got past the halfway point it did get a whole lot better. If not for that though and the fact that the murderer wasn't who I was expecting, I'd probably have given it only two stars instead of three.
And while I did enjoy the first book in this series, I just thought the second one was okay. I did however like Whitney so I was really looking forward to her story. Unfortunately the romance between she and Jude felt rushed and the murders were completely predictable too. You are literally told about each of the killings before they occur and since they were exact copies of Ripper victims, there were no surprises.
On the other hand I did like both Jude and Whitney, and thought they made a cute couple. I've come to notice however, that Graham's sex scenes are a little flowery and I just find her word usage weird at these times... I'm not sure how else to explain them. And while the ending was pretty good, overall it just took too long for this book to become interesting and am glad to be done. Hopefully Jenna's story is better.

Jude Crosby and Whitney Tremont work well together, even though Jude has his doubts to the Krewe of Hunters.
Each murder seem to escalate and emulate the original Jack the Ripper murders. Both the NYPD and the Feds are struggling to find out if this is in fact Jack coming back or a sadistic serial killer obsessed with Jack the Ripper in their midst.
I love the pairing of Jude and Whitney. Although Jude starts out at a non-believer, he quickly learns to trust both Whitney and the rest of the Krewe. Their relationship grows naturally from co-workers, to partners, to friends and finally to lovers, with their respect growing as it should be.
This installment had everything I was looking for and more: suspense, horror, romance, mystery, fast paced and a shocking ending. I seriously did NOT want to put it down.
I highly recommend the Krewe of Hunters series to everyone.
Thanks for another great book Heather Graham!!

The characters are great and I like the fact they each get their shot in the books. But, it always amazes me how the seem to fall instantly in love..never happened to me. Lol
But the storyline was really good.. So on to the next book.
