Wasn't urine-proof

Got this for my 3 year old's bed. She's potty trained, but still occasionally wets the bed. I chose this waterproof mattress pad based on the number of reviews and the high overall rating. But, based on my experience, this mattress pad did not keep the urine from leaking through onto the new mattress (which now has a urine stain/smell). Going to try another mattress pad that claims to be water-proof, hopefully one of these works.

I spent many hours reviewing water proof pads for our king size bed. We have an expensive mattress and I wanted to ensure we were purchasing the correct product. I read all of the 1 and 2 star reviews for a variety of pads hoping to find the perfect pad, and guess what, the perfect pad does not exist. I decided to purchase the SafeRest and was extremely happy that I did. I have no idea where the 1 and 2 star purchasers found the negative about this pad but after washing and drying as instructed tested the pad to ensure that it would at least be minimal leakage. 5 minutes after pouring a cup of water onto the pad, over a large pan, there was no leakage. I removed the excess water, dried the pad a second time and placed it on the mattress with absolute certainty that for, my wife and me, adequate protection was assured. Not one of the negative reviews came close to describing the product I received and I am perplexed to say the least that the product I received could be the same as described in the 1 and 2 star reviews. From the description of the pad, size, fit, no side protection, quiet, no zipper etc the pad was received precisely as described.
I replaced my 5 year old pad with this one and believe this one with provide the same service for one-third the price of my original pad. Product is exactly as described in the on line information, description, size, materials and workmanship. Excellent pad for the price.

DISINTEGRATED. MATTRESS RUINED.

Seemed to work great for two years, but you don't really know until it's tested. My cat got locked in the room and peed on the bed. Changed the sheets and discovered that the water proof layer of the cover disintegrated where the pee was, and only where the pee was, ruining my thousand dollar latex foam mattress. Protected mattress through birth!

My wife went into labor a year and a half ago and that labor went very quickly....so quickly that she ended up giving birth on our bed in the presence of EMTs. We then went to the hospital where I stayed overnight with my wife and new baby girl. The next day, once things had clamed down, I went home to clean up before they came home. For those who have witnessed or gone through child birth, you know what a mess I arrived to. For those who haven't, suffice to say there are many different types of fluids and a lot of them. Let's just say I was fully expecting to be purchasing a new mattress. To my amazement, once I'd bagged our sheets and this mattress pad, our mattress was perfectly fine. I bought another one immediately and will continue to use this brand as long as it exists. I challenge anyone to put it through a more rigorous test and I'm positive it can stand up to some sweat or your child's pee in the middle of the night. I could have posted a pic but it's better for everyone if I don't.

Infested With Bugs and Eggs

I am absolutely disgusted with this product. It was supposed to be brand new, yet it was INFESTED with bugs and eggs. I have never received a product with this problem before. I am horrified and dumbfounded how a product that is meant to DETER bugs was infested with bugs.

I bought this item for my daughter who has asthma and terrible allergies, and now I have to worry about BUGS in her bed. I can not believe a product advertised as this one would have a bug infestation within it.

I am so disappointed with this product and I would rate it less than 1 star, but that is not possible. I would never recommend this to anyone, especially considering those who purchase this item most likely are already dealing with allergies and asthma.

Best of several we've tried by far

Our dog has an incontinence issue and has leaked on our bed before. It didn't take long until the vet recommended medication. During that time we learned that not all mattress protectors are created equal. We tried the Cool Shield first, which ended up leaking very easily. Second we tried the LinenSpa Lucid which was more waterproof but not perfect. It was slightly less breathable. After this one failed we got a new mattress and I read hundreds of reviews before purchasing this one over a year ago. The SafeRest breathes excellently and hasn't leaked. I tested it thoroughly first. I also tried the Beckham which is softer and thinner but a bit less breathable. My only very minor complaint with the SafeRest is that it stains fairly easily. Do be sure to follow instructions for laundering, never use bleach. I'm willing to live with it permanently being slightly dingy even after washing as it works so well. None of the ones i tried were crinkly, but some were hotter to sleep on. If this one goes I'll buy another but spend the extra to get a full zippered encasement. I never found one that didn't have at least some bad reviews, and this one is no exception. If you need severe waterproof protection your only option is usually vinyl. But if you get any brand that breathes and feels good under the sheets be sure to test it in case the coating is defective.

Update: Ordered in 2016 and it is now 2020. We had a leak get through this mattress protector. When I peeled it off I was sad that it had leaked, but happy that 90% of the other things hadn't gotten through. Milk, sweat, etc still wasn't going through. It took a big spill to go through. So after 4 years I'd say its time to replace. Our Beckham Hotel Collection Premium Mattress Encasement that we bought in 2017 is still going strong. We have 2 so that we always have something on the bed and I prefer the Beckham for breathability and protection. However I think I'd still buy this again because it is easier to take on and off, especially considering the price point.

I bought this & verified it was a King Size on the packaging. Washed it for first use. It was really tight to put on our king bed. Went to wash it for a 2nd time after use and looked at the label to review wash instructions. Noticed it was marked "Full" size on the label. Couldn't believe it. Returning product since it's the wrong size so watch out. It concerns me how that could even happen. Right packaging, wrong product inside. I really hope we didn't get a used repackaged one. It looked new when we first opened it.

The top feels like a towel. I wouldn't sleep on it directly it is not that nice on the skin. The sides are elastic. I thought that the cover would go all around the mattress and cover it completely. Seemed to be leak resistant on first use but even after following wash and dry instructions perfectly the subsequent uses of the sheet have all leaked through. Do not buy this if it is for a child who may wet the bed. It leaks through to the mattress 🙃 even if you are quick to remove the sheet.
