Enhance your purchase
A moving, but also humorous love story about a couple in their sixties who are struggling to cope with the new lifestyle changes forced on them through redundancy. Pam, the narrator, wants more from life, while Jeff her husband of forty years wants peace of mind.“The relationship…is one that anyone in a couple can understand and relate to; especially those that consider themselves to have sunk into a rut. The threat of something new challenges their old way of life, even something as simple as salsa dancing.” C.S from the UK.
Salsa offers Pam an opportunity of excitement each week, particularly as Victor, a regular, takes a fancy to her and becomes determined to help improve her moves. She struggles between the loyalty to her husband and the draw of a new adventure.
“The use of a first person narrative is an interesting approach to this story as it automatically brings the reader in on an equal level and allows them to be privy to the inner most emotions that the narrator feels.”

Beautifully done; a few tears at the end, which is what I expect from something that moves me the way this did. Now, I have to get busy and read the rest of this author's offerings.
Her friend and co-worker, Julie, suggest that since Jeff won’t get out of the house and do things with Pam anymore, she should develop her own interest. So Julie and Pam decide to take a Salsa Dancing class together.
Author Allyson writes baby boomer romance books with smart, active, fun heroines who happen to be fully grown or as some might say mature. Ms. Abbot refers to her books as Hen Lit not Chick lit. Salsa of Die is one of her Silver Night Romance Collection novellas —short romance stories for older, more rounded women. This is the third hen-lit book I've read by Ms. Abbott and I thoroughly enjoyed it as much as I did the other books by her.
You’re never to old to learn new things or to remember what things are most important to you. For a short story the characters are amazingly well developed and endearing. It’s a beautiful story and not to give anything away, but it does have a happy ending for Pam. After all it’s a romance. I enjoyed this novella so much and I highly recommend Salsa or Die.
I love stories with mature characters. Especially when they are portrayed as vibrant, sexual beings. Love is for all ages--not just the young.
I found this work to be really enjoyable and realistic. It takes a real-life look at a marriage and how things tend to get boring between partners. My only regret is that this book was simply too short. A more thorough fleshing out of the characters would have been nice, but the story was good nonetheless.
There are important messages in this short book that all married couples can learn from. It’s so easy to slowly fall into a rut and this can happen to many people when they retire. However, life can be exhilarating, full of surprises and very worthwhile when we make efforts to live more fully.
Allyson Abbott is a very gifted storyteller and she has the ability to convey vivid pictures through her words. I very much enjoyed Salsa or Die and I highly recommend this beautiful book.
