This show watches like it's a SyFy original from the time period where the channel decided its target audience was "women who don't like science fiction". It's like SGU only on Earth. It really had potential, but five episodes in I don't think I can stomach another sleeping pill of an episode.
Note: Some people have been looking for episode 13, but I think the episode counting is just different on Amazon. Amazon's count ends at 12 because it lists/plays episodes 4 and 5 as one episode. On Amazon, episode 4 is both The Human Strain and Keeping the Faith (note the 1hour and 21 minutes runtime).
Surely CBS will give us a Season 2 to let us find out how it all ends or at least a 2-hour series finale. CBS should renew Salvation because I really want to know how it all turns out. Does humanity escape destruction by war and/or by an asteroid? Who was behind the coup that tried to kill the President? Who is leading Resist and what are their goals? Do the 160 leave earth behind and make a new world on Mars? So much left to answer in Season 2 if CBS will give the green light. If not for TV, put it on All-Access and give me something to watch besides Star Trek on my monthly subscription.
I know that the writers had to compress time during the narrative to keep things moving. The only time that this time warping was used that really took me out of the story was when the government/NASA/Tanz etc. would communicate with a satellite in orbit around Jupiter or in the vicinity. They portrayed such communication as happening instantaneously which works to keep the plot moving. The problem is my brain knows that communicating with probes at or near Jupiter would take nearly an hour depending on the current distance to Jupiter at that moment which ranges from 365 million miles to 600 million miles. Radio waves are limited to the speed of light unless Tanz invented subspace communicator and didn't mention it. It is a minor quibble but one that annoyed me since it was so obviously wrong. But I digress... overall, I would give Salvation an A as it delivered a great story.
