I can't say I hate it, but...

A threat of extinction-level proportions faces humanity, and the characters' responses are to murder one another, climb in and out of each other's pants, and sabotage any effort that might actually eliminate the threat. You'll find yourself rooting for the asteroid.

Good Pilot, Bad Show.

First episode was excellent, but each successive episode became increasingly boring and full of pointless melodrama and needless interpersonal conflict, as well as inexplicable behavior that would never happen in the real world. The characters are more concerned with behaving like middle school girls (dishonest, excessively dramatic, and in search of reasons to get upset) than they are with pursuing their mission - and their mission is to find a way to prevent an extinction event, so all the ridiculous behavior comes across as filler and the gravity of their situation seems to fly right over their heads, thus forcing me to suspend my suspension of disbelief.

This show watches like it's a SyFy original from the time period where the channel decided its target audience was "women who don't like science fiction". It's like SGU only on Earth. It really had potential, but five episodes in I don't think I can stomach another sleeping pill of an episode.

Amazon Prime Bait and Switch....Shame on You. This is not how you treat your loyal customers!!!!

My overall rating for Amazon Prime as a service just went from 5 to 3. I think its a horrible business practice to entice your viewers to watch a season for free, but then start charging after the forth episode. Had I known that I'd have to pay for the rest of the season, I could not have started watching the season. Now I've wasted 4 hours of my time. Thanks Amazon!!! I love the show and would have given it 5 stars, but I'm not going to pay extra for it...hence the 1 star rating.

We were surprised by how much we liked this show

We don't expect much from television these days. We actually don't pay for television service at all any more. However, this show has us taking a second look at what CBS has to offer. This show was very entertaining. Yes, there is some forced drama in the inter-personal relationships, but I gave it 5 stars anyway because we enjoyed it so much. If you are a Star Gate, Star Trek (Deep Space Nine, Enterprise), Haven, and Eureka fan and are waiting for the (hopefully) next season of Expanse--give Salvation a try!

Note: Some people have been looking for episode 13, but I think the episode counting is just different on Amazon. Amazon's count ends at 12 because it lists/plays episodes 4 and 5 as one episode. On Amazon, episode 4 is both The Human Strain and Keeping the Faith (note the 1hour and 21 minutes runtime).

Fairly Good & Entertaining

The acting is fairly good and the pace of the show seems just right. I'm one of the best at foreseeing the plot mysteries, but this show may have a surprise or two for the most Inquisitive viewer. Although many will say that the science is way off - - in today's world people are always accepting opinion (specially of the media) as a verified fact, especially when it's politically correct to do so... So forget the lack of scientific accuracy and enjoy. I think it's fun and a good distraction from the realities of this world. PERSONAL NOTE... so far I haven't seen too much of the standard Hollywood politics that's usually forced into the plots of nearly everything on TV today - usually they would have had at least one gay affair, a "Trans" that has been mistreated by a conservative preacher and a cop brutalizing a non-white american. There is much more to this country than all the over-blown negativity projected by mainstream media. Sometimes all I want is some descent entertainment !!

Surprisingly Entertaining & Thoughtful but Needs Renewal for Season 2

Somehow I missed this series while it aired this summer on CBS. I seem to recall seeing a few promos for the show but they just didn't catch my interest. I was on Amazon watching something else in the Sci-Fi category and afterward, Amazon recommended Salvation as another series to watch. I'm really thankful to Amazon for doing so. Salvation started off a bit slow but the benefit of getting to stream all of the episodes is that I stuck with it and by episode 3 I was hooked. I tried not to watch it all in one night and made myself stretch the episodes out over three nights. I just finished the season finale, "The Plot Against America," and I really, really, really want to see more. The writers have crafted a taut thriller that has ratcheted up the tension with each episode. You get a modern political thriller where you aren't sure whom to trust, whom to fear, and who is just trying to survive. Plenty of twists and turns that can get pretty dark but the narrative keeps hope alive... for the moment. Salvation has an excellent cast who really inhabit their roles and make them feel fleshed out.

Surely CBS will give us a Season 2 to let us find out how it all ends or at least a 2-hour series finale. CBS should renew Salvation because I really want to know how it all turns out. Does humanity escape destruction by war and/or by an asteroid? Who was behind the coup that tried to kill the President? Who is leading Resist and what are their goals? Do the 160 leave earth behind and make a new world on Mars? So much left to answer in Season 2 if CBS will give the green light. If not for TV, put it on All-Access and give me something to watch besides Star Trek on my monthly subscription.

I know that the writers had to compress time during the narrative to keep things moving. The only time that this time warping was used that really took me out of the story was when the government/NASA/Tanz etc. would communicate with a satellite in orbit around Jupiter or in the vicinity. They portrayed such communication as happening instantaneously which works to keep the plot moving. The problem is my brain knows that communicating with probes at or near Jupiter would take nearly an hour depending on the current distance to Jupiter at that moment which ranges from 365 million miles to 600 million miles. Radio waves are limited to the speed of light unless Tanz invented subspace communicator and didn't mention it. It is a minor quibble but one that annoyed me since it was so obviously wrong. But I digress... overall, I would give Salvation an A as it delivered a great story.

Painful to watch

Wow. This was terrible. Feels like it was written by a C-list soap opera writer. Cheesy and full of cliches. Barely got through the first episode.
