I love this movie and book

I love this movie and book. I've bought multiple copies of the book and movie to give to people which I don't often do. For me personally, this is one of the best movies I've seen as far as how it moved me. The movie is very true to the book and it is a true story.

Just watched this last evening and found it to be mesmerizing. Should be award winning for its cross- culture impact and exposure. It opens the class differences in a non racist way while exposing the ugly side of racism, bigotry, crime, wealth, privilege, homelessness and other social issues. In the end it shows how, deep inside, basic human needs and emotions are very much the same regardless of station in life.

Excellent depiction of real life struggles when one person makes selfish decisions and how healing can come from addressing the problems. Also reflects how the homeless feel - faceless, nameless - in our society and how simple acts of kindness can make huge impacts.

A Looong, Sloooow Slog Into Do-Good Land

Several cast names [Kinnear, Zellweger] attracted me to watch this film but I was misled. The basic plot is that some rich white people dedicate their time, money and energy to rejuvenate a decrepit, poor, dysfunctional "inner city" neighborhood. If only life was that simple! For good measure, viewers are treated to flashback scenes of KKK brutality which, in the script writer's mind, must have been a primary cause of the messed-up lives of the soup kitchen patrons we meet. Watching this do-good-ism play out over a two hour production [with a "good die young" subplot] was as valuable as one protagonist's judgment of "catch and release" fishing... if you don't eat fish, why the heck bother catching them?

" what you do to the least of these you do to me"

Slavery legally ended in 1865 but plantation life went on for decades then changed to share cropping which was close to slavery financially.
Yes, black men were hanged in parts of the South for looking/and talking to a white woman. Lived through all of that and it persisted into the 50's and even early 60s. Saying it never happed is like saying the death camps never happened.

All through the 50's share cropping was predominant in the South with destitute poverty.
Even Chinese and eastern European workers tried to work cheaper than the salves that were still living on the plantations. Grime times for African Americans. Please study history and read what life was like on the plantations after the Civil War. Remember when the Federal troops pulled out all hell broke loose. The North could not afford to occupy the South forever.

Good, Old Fashioned Movie

Good ole' fashioned true story of faith. Great movie for releasing emotions. Loved Greg Kinnear but felt Rene Zellwigger was miscast. Her face is just not expressive enough for the nuances of a character like this. Good use of 2 hours to escape. No violence, no foul language, no weird shocking sex. Just a nice movie. Watch it with your parents.

Loved the trailer, not the movie

This movie had a wonderful message, but for me it simply failed to deliver that message in a way that kept my interest. I found this movie very overly drawn out. The best parts in my opinion all fit into the trailer. My recommendation is if you like the trailer, just stick with that.

If your looking for some good movies, that were very well written and directed all the way through, you might want to check out these: The Redemption of Henry Myers, Miracles from Heaven, Camp Harlow, The Long Shot, Moondance Alexander, Pete's Dragon (2016), The Little Mermaid (2018 ) and October Baby.

God's Blessing to you, stay safe..

This was an inspiring, touching movie that touches every emotion. Wonderful performances in an incredible true story. Be sure to wait for the credits because there are pictures and captions of the real people in the story. I rented it and then immediately bought it.
