Realistic but still awesome

Fantastic.
I feel like Dwayne Johnson doesn't get the same baseline judgement as other actors due to his origins, and sometimes gets poor reviews due to the wrestling background.

In this case, he plays an excellent role, routinely with nuance.
The daughter character (Blake) is a good one, well fleshed with both vulnerabilities and strengths, a reasonable and realistic character, as is the mother (Emma) and Ben.

While there are some impossibilities regarding magnitude and follow-on disasters, it's a reasonable premise and believable story line. The effects are excellent, the story moves well, and the action manages to be fast and hard but also reasonable and realistic. The extraneous characters are as good as the main four or six.

I judge a book by how much I want to NOT read those last pages because I don't want it to end, and by how much I want to know what happens to the characters at the end. This movie checks both those boxes. Really excellent. Definitely on the shelf to rewatch going forward.

Disaster Movie Lovers will enjoy this

(NO SPOILERS)

A big budget disaster movie. I'm a HUGE fan of disaster movies. It was nice to see some high quality effects in this niche.

BUT, I was expecting it to be a little better in the scientific accuracy department. If SyFy can satisfyingly get close enough for layman to buy into the premise of disaster, why couldn't this? I had a hard time getting over that.

Also, there's no real protagonist, except the earthquake. No creepy, jealous scientist, no corrupt, shady politician. It's just straight up survival. That didn't bother me so much, even if that's my favorite formula.

The action was enjoyable and the climax delivered. The actors, especially the English fellows were good. The romance was cute. I was ready for more Dias

STILL, it's a disaster movie worth seeing, especially for true fans. I'm glad I rented this one!

Great Disaster Movie, Don't Miss This One!

Most importantly a lot of people seem to expect reality from disaster movies. This is a disaster movie, not a documentary. I love disaster movies. But I do expect them to hold true to their model of reality instead of changing their movie physics halfway through. I also expect to be absorbed in the movie and entertained. This movie did all of this and more. San Andreas is now one of my favorite disaster movies! Just remember to suspend reality, and go with the flow of the show. Enjoy the ride!

Basic Family Friendly Action Movie
Verified purchase
San Andreas:
Feel-good Family Fun From your Friends at Warner Bros. Starring Dwayne [the Rock] Johnson, Dwayne Johnson, and Other People. This is true: on Amazon, Dwayne Johnson is actually listed twice (once with and once without his wrestling nickname, “The Rock”) before any other acting credits. That’s OK—he’s twice as big as the rest anyhow, and more than twice as strong…

Dwayne has a solid movie career now of producing family-friendly films that pretty much manage to be appealing to adults, without being too scary for older kids. He does it once again here. I saw it pay per view, and I actually want a copy of the Blu-Ray now just so I can watch some of the specials on it (including, of course, the GAG REEL). I give it a solid B, as Family-Friendly Fare.

An Eye-Popping-Rollicking Good Yarn

Great story line about a very possible earthquake event. The drama set around a family who must save their daughter from an earthquake so powerful that it topples city after city up and down all of California. Nothing I can say here will prepare you for the amazing special effects.
My hat is off to Dwayne Johnson as he turns in a magnificent and entirely believable performance. The other cast members were spot on each turning in wonderfully believable supporting performances.
All, and all a thoroughly enjoyable night at the movies with a theme that gives important insights to the overwhelming power of mother nature and the resilience of mankind. *****

Total Fun — Awesome 3D Will “Rock” You! (Pun Intended)
Verified purchase
This is definitely one of The Rock’s better offerings, and the 3D version even more-so! The storyline is pretty compelling and the second half of the movie will leave you feeling like you’re just barely hanging on for the ride. The 3D version is well worth the investment: Skyscraper-tall waves, an entire cityscape undulating in the throes of earthquake, and sweeping aerial vistas will let your 3D TV earn its stripes! The 3D offers excellent depth of field for a truly dramatic viewing. This popcorn flick is an entirely enjoyable romp with the Rock. The movie slows occasionally during the side story with the main character’s daughter, Blake (Alexandra Daddario), but not enough to dock a star. If you enjoy fun movies and have a 3D TV, your choice is made!

A movie of upcoming tragedy, devastation, & hope, that sadly--is NOT unrealistic!
Verified purchase
Dwayne Johnson sure picked an excellent movie script to star in here! 😍 This is a movie of tragedy, devastation, & hope, that's unfortunately NOT too far-fetched! 😢 We have all been warned thousands of years ago by pure Scriptural-Prophesy from multiple Holy Books, to "...Watch the Weather as well as the 'Negative-Behaviors' of People in general. So that we will know when the end of the world as we know it, is about to happen"!

Nowadays, with all the sharp increases in natural-disasters that have been occurring worldwide and throughout this country over the last seven years in particular, we have clearly bared-witness to these written Prophecies coming to pass. And those of us with the Gifts of Discernment & Prediction combined with a Close Relationship with God-Yah-Allah, we clearly understand what's going on today here and all over the world with the weather combined with people's sharply increased-levels of indecent & hateful behavior in particular.

With that being said, I watched San Andreas with a VERY open-mind and a sad heart, because I THOROUGHLY understand "what's coming"--especially in the future of the U.S. And I'm not one who conveniently chooses to live in denial like an ostrich with its head in the sand....

Trust me--with everything that's already happening (endless fires; excessive rainstorms, lightning, tornados, hurricanes, & floods; record-breaking heatwaves; etc, etc), it's NOT the least bit unrealistic that one day we can find ourselves encountering heavy tremors in the California San Andreas Fault Line that are horrible enough to be felt three-thousand (3,000) miles away in New York City--AND that triggers a few Tsunamis as a result!

We have our predictions from our Forefathers & Ancestors as told to them by Our Holy Creator. And we need to take heed to this Knowledge that they left behind for us, to use as a Guide to prepare us for the approaching Fulfillment of even MORE Prophecies.

Therefore, we all need to do a Self-Evaluation and make the proper changes in our behaviors and Life-Choices to improve our standards and our "Moral Compass" within ourselves and in how we treat each other in general.

Believe me, we are NOT going to be able to continue being abusive & hateful towards one another for very long--especially over a person's Melanin-Levels in their skin and/or their desire to live a life of high moral aptitude (which is what we're SUPPOSED to be striving towards in the first place)! As long as we keep on ignoring these Commands to change our ways, punishments of increasing magnitude WILL continue to get worse, especially in the U.S.

Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the Cast did a superb performance here. Sia sang the HELL outta California Dreamin', giving it a hauntingly beautiful & heart-aching rendition that only SHE could create for this type of apocalyptic-movie; the Special Effects (FX) Team blazed the visuals & made every disaster scene bounce-off the screen at us; and above all--the Writers made that storyline as hard-core Reality as it comes--complete with the sweetness of Bad-Karma as well (what goes around, definitely comes around in here)!

I'm very happy to have purchased San Andreas for my collection. After watching it, I would've been totally upset if I'd only done a Rental on this.

Broken case
Verified purchase
While I am pleased with the rapid delivery time (2 days) and the discs appearing to be in good condition, I was disappointed with the condition of the case for the Bluray, "San Andreas." I am an avid movie disc collector and work to maintain a pristine movie collection - discs, included written material, and cases. The case for this 3-disc collection (3D, Bluray, DVD) arrived in broken condition. Several plastic pieces fell out on the table when I opened it, one corner was smashed, the discs will not stay in the case because the center connector is broken, and it is impossible to close due to the closing mechanism having been broken. I also received the disc set for, "Aquaman," which was in pristine condition, so, it seems, delivery may have not been the issue - leaving me to conclude it was packaged this way. This accounts for my 2-Star rating.
