It takes two to make a scandal…
What kind of woman ventures into London’s most notorious pleasure club? An outsider like Graciela, the Duchess of Autenberry, snubbed time and time again by society because of her Spanish roots. Ela longs to take a lover for a single, wild night, and within the walls of Sodom there are gentlemen to suit every forbidden taste. If only she were not so drawn to the smoldering Lord Strickland…a dangerous man who sees beyond her mask, and could ruin her reputation with a mere whisper.
Lord Strickland never permitted himself to fantasize about the sultry, off-limits lady, but then he never expected to find Ela in a place so wicked, looking for what he’s more than too happy to give. She may not be to the ton’s taste, but she suits him perfectly. First, however, he must convince her to trust in this dangerous desire—and in the promise of forever unleashed by one wild, scandalous night.

1). Ela knew the hero when he was a pre-pubescent boy and she was an adult. In fact, the hero, Collin, was the best friend of her stepson. Ela treated him in a motherly fashion as he was growing up, as he didn't have much in the way of family himself. That was hard for me to get past and kind of grossed me out.
2). I could not believe the amount of sexual assault that happened from the hero toward the heroine. Collin's attitude was "Hey, I am pretty sure you're attracted to me, so I'm going to sexually assault you until you like it," even after the heroine repeatedly tells him no in no uncertain terms. Collin's general response to her refusals run along the line of "I know you want it" and then he proceeds to touch her sexually as she firmly tells him to stop. I was shocked. I sincerely hope that some reader reading this who has been a victim of sexual assault is not retraumatized by this. And I even more sincerely hope that no young man reads this book and thinks this behavior is okay. He will find himself in prison. This book is more like the premise of a rapey old school romance from the 1980's. Bottom line. Finding a person attractive does not give them license to touch you sexually when you REPEATEDLY TELL THEM NO!
Colin has always admired Graciela, but she’s off-limits. His best friend wouldn’t approve of the relationship and Colin has always been part of the family because he doesn't have a welcoming home of his own. Colin doesn’t want to risk his wrath, but sometimes feelings can be stronger than intentions. Can he convince Graciela that he can be good for her, that taking him as her lover can make her happy and that the passion Colin has to offer her is exactly what she needs? What will be the consequences if she says yes and accepts his offer?
The Scandal of It All is a fantastic intriguing story. I was immediately fascinated by the complicated situation between Colin and Graciela. There’s so much passion, but they have many obstacles in their way and for Graciela it would be a big step to choose something that’s just for her. She’s always there for others and resists temptation if it might damage someone she loves. Colin is persistent though and slowly he breaks down her walls, which was fabulous to see. They have a beautiful connection and I was curious to see where it would lead.
Sophie Jordan has a great descriptive writing style and makes her stories come to life in a terrific way. I loved how she gets to the bottom of each family relationship. This thoroughness makes her story a true joy to read. She brings plenty of sparkling energy that makes The Scandal of It All both captivating and entertaining. I was spellbound by the beautiful dresses, the secrecy, the amazing true love and the many unexpected twists and turns. I absolutely adored this mesmerizing sexy romantic story and highly recommend it.
What I could not get beyond was the complete disregard for any medical facts. First of all, the math for when she got pregnant in no way lines up with a a typical cycle, and while a miracle could happen and first trimester bleeding may not lead to miscarriage, the fact that a fall would cause a miscarriage in the first trimester is pretty unbelievable as well, since the fetus hasn’t even ascended above the pubic bone and is still safely ensconced within the pelvis. Additionally, I would LOVE to see a birth where, after first spotting the baby’s head, only one more push is required to bring the baby earthside. And this happens not only once, but TWICE. As someone who has worked in women’s health and has knowledge of the progression of these things, I was not able to suspend my belief log enough to enjoy this book. I dearly wish the author would have done more research before writing the details about pregnancy, miscarriage, and birthing.

It was interesting for sure, and quite a fast read - it certainly goes by very quickly and is a fast paced books. It seems almost that I blinked a second and the book was gone
