Review

We LOVE these cards. Bought this for my three year old. It was a HUGE hit because he was and still is an animal lover! We started with matching mommy and baby, letter sounds, sorting alphabetically and every time it is a lot of fun! He even likes to spell words out with the letters. We have had it for over a year and he always loves playing with this. We have just recently started playing Go Fish with this. I am so glad I found this at a drug store. I wish they carry more such fun and educational games. I am sure this can be a fun game to enjoy while you are travelling (we haven't done that yet). --School Zone Website

My 6 yr old daughter and I have a lot of fun playing this game. She loves that they are all animals and loves looking at the pictures of both the baby and momma. It is helping her decipher between the lower case letter and upper case letter...while also a good refresher of the alphabet for first grade. We can play for hours! --School Zone Website

At under $3, I figured, why not? It was the best $3 we've spent in a very long time. This is the perfect game for our 4 year old who is really starting to learn his letters and how to play games. We play it both as the standard Go Fish game and also as a set of flash cards to help figure out which letters he still struggles with. I'd still recommend this at three times the current price! --Amazon

Our ultimate customers are kids. We know what is hard and what is exciting for them, what fires their imagination and makes them smile. Mixing challenge with reward is important. We listen to parents. We listen to teachers. Based on what we hear, we create learning materials that help prepare kids for success in school and life. School Zone Publishing authorship signifies quality, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail, as well as a collective commitment to kids’ well-being, education, and entertainment.

Color? We use lots of it! Words? That depends. We put only as much text on a page as kids are ready to read. We watch how kids work and how they play. We build fun into learning without sacrificing content. Recognizing that parents are their kids’ #1 teachers, our products encourage parent participation and make it easy. Workbooks include a front-of-book Parent Guide as well as a back-of-book list of Activities to Share that extend the learning. They also have visual cues, such as a color-coded skills focus listed at the bottom of each page to help guide targeted work. However, our workbooks, other than those for the very youngest, also make it easy for kids to work independently.

With research-based content, designed by educators and delivered across multiple learning platforms, School Zone connects with kids “where they are.” Apps and software, workbooks and flash cards—all are crafted through a child’s eyes, while integrating parent/teacher standards of precision and accountability. We update our workbook curriculum on an as-needed basis to address changing standards such as those presented by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and Common Core, and as always, what we are hearing from teachers and parents. Our in-house editorial, design, and programming team collaborate with best-in-industry contractors, to create, update, and review our products. In that same spirit, the family-owned company, approaching the 40-year mark, both embodies success and embraces possibility.

We work hard, and so do our products, including flash card sets that often double as games. Many workbooks have perforated pages to take along as individual worksheets anywhere, any time. They are also recyclable, largely made in the U.S., and printed using soy-based ink--friendly for customers and the environment. These are just a few ways School Zone packs value—and our company’s values—into everything we offer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
By JC on July 1, 2019
As a learning tool for a 4yr old the animals representing the letters on some cards are difficult. I understand it’s trying to be consistent and keeping the cards with animal association but when trying to play go fish and referring to the animal, it was challenging. I would say if the the cards are used for the letters only as in upper case and lower case pairing then these are useful. Picture attached are few she struggled with. Fox for letter X? Overall not what I was hoping for as a fun learning tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some cards may be difficult for young kids but we are loving it
By Naomi AK on November 25, 2020
Okay so my pre-k 3 and 4 year olds know their letters on sight. So for us this game works but it would not for most young kids. I’ve put up pictures of the cards kids may or may not have trouble with.

4 different kinds of Birds. Perhaps duck and one other set of birds might work.

If my kids didn’t know their alphabet they would not be able to get yak (looks like highland cattle
To them so they call them cows and there is another cow card) frog is coming confusing for them and walrus baby they could not identify.

The other set of cards are ones even has different names for. Jaguar is a cheetah, orangutans are monkeys so on.

Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for all ages of kids
By Tyler on September 16, 2020
Go Fish is fun for all ages and this game is darling! The pictures are adorable and make it really easy for younger kids to play along who don’t know all the letters yet because you can just ask for the animal instead of the letter. That allows our preschooler to play along with her big sisters and she is already picking up more letters after just a couple of rounds of play. The cards are big which makes them easier for small hands to handle. The font is a perfect sans-serif font that makes the letters super clear and not confusing. The parent animal‘s letter is capitalized with the name of the animal is in all-caps at the bottom of the card, and the baby animal’s letter is lowercase with the animal’s name at the bottom of the card in all lowercase letters. They include a parent card that has instructions for classic Go Fish and 3 other play options. They also include 3 cards that tell you what the name of the baby animal is, for instance a baby cow is called a calf. My kids really liked that! My one complaint is that the cards are card stock and I know that sticky fingers will eventually ruin them. I really wish they were plastic or laminated! We will try to take good care of them because it is a big hit with all my kids ages 9, 7, and 5. Despite the cards being card stock instead of laminated I would highly recommend this game!
