"Have I told you enough how much I love this laminator

I bought this for my wife. We are both teachers and the laminators in the library, big ones that cost several hundred dollars and no one is allowed to use without special training, are constantly out of commission for various reasons. My wife absolutely LOVES this one! The difference between this one and the $15-20 cheap ones, as noted by other reviewers, is the speed and jam prevention. I didn't want my wife frustrated and she has been the opposite! Over the month we've had it (she opted to keep it at home so I can use it too) she and our teen daughter have run through about 300 sheets without a single jam or problem. Every time she uses it my wife says, "Have I told you enough how much I love this laminator!?!" Keep momma happy and everyone is happy! :-)

I'm torn about this review. On one hand: this product works well. It laminates things no problem. If I'm reviewing for myself - I got what I ordered for a good price. Luckily I only paid $30 for it. However, if I'm reviewing it to help out future buyers, read up. The list price is $128. For $30ish this is a great product and I would absolutely order again. But if I would have paid $128 I would have been beyond furious. I have a different $30 laminator that I bought 4 years ago from another company and it works just as well if not a little better. (I'm a teacher and I only ordered a 2nd one so I have one at school and one at home.) The Scotch PRO is not any faster, it's not quieter and it doesn't laminate any better. So if it's on sale - buy it! Works great! If it's $128 skip it.

Device nearly caught fire!

I purchased this scotch pro TL 906 thermal laminator about a week ago and took it for a “test drive” the tonight I got it and it worked fine.
Two days later when I was trying to use it for work I turned it on and could see steam coming out and could smell a strong odor and thought maybe that’s what it does when it heats up. Seems like it’s taking a long time to heat up so I did a Google search of how long it should take for this brand and model to heat up and it said 5 to 6 minutes. After about 15 minutes I started looking at the machine because that smell was getting a much stronger and noticed on the backside close to where you put the couches and there was a black spot starting to bubble up on the plastic and the machine was basically melting itself from the inside out! It is ridiculous and I’m thankful that I stood there and watched it heat up and so forth because who knows if I had kept it plugged in if it would have caught fire or what. I would not buy this product if I were you!

I am preschool special education teacher and am constantly laminating to preserve items for years to come. I usually use card stock and 5ml pouches and needed a laminator that could accommodate constant usage and thick projects, especially something that could get hot enough - nothing is more annoying than open corners. I should also say that I put my laminators through the ringer! This would be third/forth laminator in a few years because of the heavy usage and/or not so careful use (oops!). My biggest problems with laminators are getting jammed, not getting hot enough, or making some terrible squeaking noise. I researched laminators for a while and really would have paid more if anything had decent and consistent reviews. This was a good price and the reviews were pretty good as well. I also am an avid fan of the scotch pouches - the price is incredible for the quality - so I figured I give this a try. LOVE! It surpassed my expectations. Its nearly silent! It has different size settings (3ml or 5ml) an anti jam button. There's also a nice place to wrap the cord for storage or traveling back and forth to work. It also laminates fairly quickly! I would absolutely recommend.

I had an older Scotch laminator that was recalled. So I chopped off the power cord and got my $16 refund from Scotch. Still needing a laminator, the Scotch TL906 looked like a step up from my prior model, but still cheap enough for someone that would rarely use it. I like the idea of having the tray on the back to help feed the sheets. I received it in the mail about a week ago and was excited to test it out on a few page that had been waiting to be laminated. After opening the box, I found that there was a blue wire hanging down in the sheet/paper path (see photo). It appeared to be connected on either end, but I wasn't able to tuck it up inside. Having paid for a brand new laminator, I didn't want to settle for one that didn't appear to be properly put together. Went through the relatively easy refund process on Amazon, and I received my replacement in a couple days.

Unpacked the new one tonight so that I could laminate something for work tomorrow. Figured what are the chances of two duds in a row. Didn't see any external issues with the product so I powered it on. The power light lit green, and the 3ml and Anti-Jam lights lit white. After a second, the 3ml and Anti-Jam lights went out and the ready light started flashing green. So it appeared to be warming up. I selected the 3ml button for the temperature selection. Waited an hour and I could feel that the top of the machine was a little warm, but no change to the lights. I sent a page with a lamination sheet through to see if maybe the flashing meant it was ready (instructions are not clear). The sheet went through, but the glue didn't melt. It obviously was not warm enough. Selected the 5ml button as maybe the 3ml button wasn't working. Other than a slight indent when pushing the button, there's no way to know what temperature has been selected while it is warming up. Waited another hour. Still just flashing green and it's not hot enough to seal the sheet. About to start the return process on Amazon.

Obviously there is a quality control issue with these units. I generally have a positive opinion of Scotch as a company and am surprised that they have not nipped this problem in the bud. I'd be embarrassed to put out a product that is obviously having problems. I'm sure with the number of returns they are getting that they must know about the issues.

Never worked!

Plugged it in, when the ready light came on it seemed to blow a fuse. Something smoke like came out of it and it was extremely hot to the touch. Waited a few minutes to plug it back in and it was dead. I had my 3M for 3 years, shared it with 3 teachers to laminate hundreds of things and this never happened.

Sturdy, portable and quality output

I bought this for my classroom because the school laminator is always broken and makes such thin products. This was such a relief to have my first year as a sped teacher. It's so light and small I can take it to home and back easily. The sheets are much higher quality than a big lamination machine. The only downside is that you cannot laminate large projects. Everything has to fit in a regular sized sheet. I was so thrilled this has lasted three years so far. I use it non-stop. You just need to be mindful of how you line up the sheets when feeding the machine. If you put them in sometimes even slightly crooked, it crinkles the sheet. Also, don't let the sheets sit in the machine when they are done or the end will curl permanently. Great price and I wholeheartedly recommend this laminator!

HORRIBLE: DO NOT BUY

If I could give this 0 stars or negative stars i would. I was so excited to buy this laminator to begin getting my classroom set up, but it was totally disappointing and there is no option to even return this. When I plugged it in, it began to heat up VERY fast to the point where it started smoking and started to make a burning smell. I thought it was normal, considering this was my first purchase of a laminator and I know plenty of people who have and use this. I put the paper in the laminating sheet and then put it in the machine, and both times doing so, they both jammed; however, this is "never jam technology." After pulling out the destroyed paper for the second time, I started to look inside through the side the papers come out of and I found pieces of plastic ties INSIDE THE LAMINATOR! My whole house smells like burnt plastic now. I HIGHLY recommend you to NOT buy this. I want a refund.

This product was very easy to use! Our school laminator breaks so often that this was a good buy for the money. It works perfectly with 8.5 X 11 paper and smaller. It is not designed for small pieces that have been cut out and need laminating as the pouches feed at about a 70 degree angle making the pieces slide together. This was definitely a good buy!
