Good book with a good plot line. I'd say the writing was somewhat amateurish along with a few errors, scenes that were unnecessarily long, and details that made no sense, but I enjoyed reading it, and I must say that I am compelled to find out more. Overall worth my time.

So years later down the road shes in her schooling going on missions that her handler has sent her on to definitely kill her on purpose but she survives it after getting back her father wants to meet w her and tell her some hard truth that she doesn't even know that could cost him his life and not only that but hers as well. Her world is turned upside down and everything she was taught is farrr from the truth but is a lie to be exact! Her Bestie Jennifer on the other hand already decided when she turns 18 he is choosing the path of marriage rather then continue to be a slayer which Kelia is very talented and well skilled but once she has discovered all of these lies and seeks out the help of the infant vampire sea shadow - Christopher there is when the real quest started finding out the truth and nothing more is any importance to her then finding out what the society is really up to besides the fact of masking her father's death by calling it suicidal which she knows is not true at all . Her best friend is there for her in thick and thin and one nite she tells Jennifer everything and Kelia was scared that she wasn't going to believe her at all but she did. Im not gonna ruin the rest of the story so if u like this then go grab a copy and dive in!!!

Our heroine is a slayer, our hero a vampire. That may sound familiar but the kicker is that vampires are pirates that cannot come on land.

This is an urban fantasy novel with a somewhat unique twist involving a pirate and seafaring theme. I really enjoyed the unique feel that this provided and the world building that went with it. The plot was also good, with several unexpected twists and turns which kept things interesting. The characters were, unfortunately, the weakness from my perspective. In spite of this interesting world, the characters seemed too normal, if you will, like something you read in any number of other vampire books. They needed a bit more of a unique spark to truly fit in this interesting world.

Regardless, the story was enjoyable and did keep my attention throughout. As this was the first book in the series, I am hopeful that the characters will get fleshed out on the next book. I am looking forward to giving it a try to find out.

I liked this story. It begins with me thinking its going to be a typical vampire hunting story when it does a 180 and becomes something different. Its the story of Kelia who learns that the society she belongs to is lying to her, and off she goes on an adventure full of action, danger, lies, and the search for the truth. Thought it was a cool idea to combine the vampire and the pirate genre together. Juts a good story that was interesting and entertaining.

I’ve basically never reviewed a book series before out of the hundreds I’ve read in my life. But this series, it’s seriously good. So good. I couldn’t put it down. I read the first three books in three days, I could hardly sleep and didn’t do or think about anything else. It’s sucked me right in! This series takes its time to tell a fantastic, heart breakingly amazing story. The typos are prevalent throughout the series. Totally minor and very easy to not even notice. It doesn’t make the series any less amazing. I was worried about cliffhangers and not being satisfied after each novel individually, personally I HATE when the story doesn’t wrap up and forces me to buy the next book, but this series did an excellent job at not doing that while also making me immediately go searching for the next one to read as soon as possible. The series seriously has me waiting VERY impatiently until May for the 4th book to come out. So good. Highly recommend this entire series to any and all fantasy lovers! I can’t praise it enough.

Growing up Kelia Starling was told that Sea Shadows needed to be killed but when she works with one to find her father's murderer her opinion of them changes. Drew Knight is a Sea Shadow/Vampire of the Sea, and not at all like what Kelia was told they would be like. Intriguing story and interesting characters make this a great series starter. I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of The Vampire Pirate Saga.

This is book one of The Vampire Pirate Saga series and the main character is trainee Slayer Kelia, who is only a few months away from having to make the important decision that will rule the rest of her life, leave the Slayer program to get married, or become a Slayer for life on her eighteenth birthday. She has no interest in any of the other recruits and unlike her roommate Jennifer, who has her eyes set on getting married to her beloved, she plans to become the best Slayer she can. Her father, Gregory Starling, is high up in The Society, but she has a handler called Ashton Rycroft who was never a Slayer, but adorns his office with items as if from a battle he has won. She was sent on a mission to capture an Infant, a newly made Sea Shadow, with two other Slayers, who were only useful at handling a boat and didn’t come to her aid. She was nowhere near qualified enough for such a solo mission, with many senior Slayers better trained than her, but her mission was not quite what it seemed. She managed to capture the Infant, who was actually not a blood thirsty monster as she had been trained to expect. When she returned her father was there to greet her, with her Handler a short distance away.

She was told to meet him off the Society premises to talk, but he never showed and when she returned, she was told he had killed himself. Something she found extremely difficult to believe! Her father’s body will now be cremated at sea, rather than a proper funeral, seen as a disgrace to the Society. When she starts looking for answers, she soon finds out that she has been lied to for her whole life, from the age of five within the Society and from seven as her training began for her role as a Slayer. She wants to know what her father found out that led to his death and more about the lies she has been told about Sea Shadows and more. This leads her to the very infamous Drew Knight, the most wanted Sea Shadow for over a hundred years. He offers to tell her some of the truth she is seeking, in return for a favour at a later date. Drew already had a plan in action, with the Infant, Christopher Beckett, to save Beckett’s fiancée, who is being held at the Society fortress somewhere, and the red ruby ring he gave her will point to her survival.

Now Kelia is in danger from another who follows her about and ultimately betrays her to her Handler. He knows who she has been meeting and her Handler questions her about her feelings for Drew and why she has gone against all her training and upbringing in the Slayer Society. He gives her an excessive punishment and everybody is talking about what she is supposed to have done with the monster Sea Shadow, whilst looking at her in disgust or ignoring her. Her life as she knew it has ended and she may well be killed as the ultimate punishment and deterrent to others. But she will not give up until she knows exactly why her father was killed and what the truth behind the Society and its many secrets is. The truth may put her in the most danger, but she is stubborn enough to want it all, no matter the danger to herself. A very twisted story of a supposedly heroic Society who help keep people safe from the dangers of the monstrous Sea Shadows, but may well turn out to be more like monsters then the monsters they supposedly hunt! A mix of vampire pirates who can only exist at sea, during the day at least and are bloodthirsty, out of control animals, with no human traits left supposedly, and those who are trained from childhood to kill them, with far too many secrets hiding the real truth of the Sea Shadows very existence! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I was drawn to this book because of the title and cover so I thought I would give it a go!
I think 17 is a bit young for a character in a romance book especially as the hero was around 100. She was not even classed as an adult yet. If the character was twenty then for me that would have flowed better.
There was also a bit I got confused about. Christopher had just been saved and convinced Drew to go back to save Kelia. Drew even says they would go back after sundown, but after a few days the conversation is repeated to go after Kelia and she is still in prison.

Other than that I really enjoyed the concept and the idea of it.
I love the idea of vampire pirates and I am intrigued by all the secrets and plots.
Drew is a great character and I look forward to learning more about him.
Overall, I would be very interested in continuing the series.

Desperately needs an editor

This has some nice ideas, but it desperately needs a structural edit. Characters constantly contradict themselves, jump around in time, etc., and it all seems to stem from the authors inability to remember what they'd written a page earlier.
For example, when the heroine is about to meet the love interest, she thinks "at least the vampires are not mindless beasts, and can control their urges to kill." One page later, when she actually meets him, she's surprised that he doesn't immediately attack her, because "they're mindless beasts."
Meanwhile the protagonist is annoyingly indecisive and comes across as an idiot, constantly standing around worrying and wondering what she should do, rather than showing any ability to actually protag. I wanted to shake her.
What's frustrating is that all these issues are fixable, if the authors had done a proper revision job (or used an editor).
