Blog post2011 was a year of surprises. Most of them pleasant. The third book in the Ryan Lock series, Gridlock, was published in hardcover over the summer, and so far it seems to be performing even stronger, especially in e-book, than the first two books in the series – a good omen for this summer when it's released in paperback.
Initial sales of the paperback of Deadlock were, per the usual sophomore slump, a bit down on Lockdown's numbers but it still made the top 50 in its first full week on sal10 years ago Read more -

Work continues apace on Lock 4, and it's starting to vaguely resemble a novel.
Next month I'll be appearing alongside Lee Child at the Easons store on O'Connell Street in Dublin. Details here: http://www.seanblackbooks.com/events.php
The audiobook of Gridlock is on the way, and I am delighted to tell you that the narrator is Jeff Harding, who also narrated The Da Vinci Code, The Bourne series, and, yes, Lee's Reacher books.

Blog postTo research the first book in the series, which was also my debut, I underwent an intensive three and a half week bodyguard training course in the UK and Eastern Europe. Living in barracks with over a dozen other men, as well as the rigors of learning the close protection game, took me well outside my comfort zone. Blog postThe third book of the Lock series, Gridlock, is now with the Transworld copyeditor. It will be released in the UK and Ireland (and lots of other places) in August. Authors can be notoriously bad judges of their own work but I will say that I am intensely proud of Gridlock. The winner of the 2018 International Thriller Writers Award returns with one of the must-read thrillers of the summer.
A tense, action-packed novel that shuttles between Russia in the late 1980s, and modern-day New York, where a Russian oligarch is plunged into a living nightmare.
What would you do for a million dollars?
Now what would you do for a billion?
Back in the 1980s, as the Soviet Union collapsed, Dimitri Semenov battled Russia's fearsome mafia, and the KGB, to amass a vast fortune.
Then, as his enemies circled, he fled to America, taking his billions with him.
Now someone wants all that money back, with interest, and they'll go to any lengths to get it.
Sean Black returns with a thriller that's bursting with his trademark mastery of action and suspense.
Marine veteran Ty is hired to protect reporter Cressida as she investigates a decades-old missing persons case in the Everglades. But what seems like a straightforward gig turns into a nightmare as a seemingly idyllic Florida town reveals its sinister secrets…
The latest nail-biting, edge of your seat thriller from the British winner of the International Thriller Writers Award in New York. Previous winners include, Jeffery Deaver, Stephen King and Gregg Hurwitz.
Like the Everglades themselves, the small town of Darling appears calm. The people are welcoming to the two strangers, no one locks their doors, and crime seems non-existent.
But just beneath the hospitable surface lie a series of terrifying secrets.
Soon veteran bodyguard Ty finds this job is anything but. Plunged into a nightmare world, will he be able to keep his client alive? Or will they both be sucked into a swamp of lies, betrayal and violence?

When the daughter of a Chinese billionaire is kidnapped from her mansion in Arcadia, California, Ryan and Ty find themselves caught in the middle of a vicious standoff.
Emily Yan is a Chinese 'parachute kid', one of thousands of children sent to study in America by their ultra-wealthy parents. Living in a multi-million dollar mansion in Arcadia, California with her hard-partying cousin Charlie, it's not long before their ostentatious displays of wealth attract the wrong sort of attention in the form of some MS-13 gang members.
But someone else has been looking for Emily, a shadowy figure from back home known only as The Red Tiger. Two very different worlds collide in this explosive new thriller from Sean Black as Ryan Lock and his business partner, wise-cracking US Marine Ty Johnson, set out to save Emily from a violent tug of war between two deadly forces; the brutal members of America's most dangerous gang, and an equally determined Chinese enforcer called the Red Tiger.
The second novel in the Ryan Lock series, Deadlock is an explosive, race-against-time thriller for fans of Lee Child, Robert Crais and James Patterson.
Elite bodyguard Ryan Lock has become a convicted felon, sentenced to twenty years in Pelican Bay, California's notorious Supermax prison. Or at least that's what the United States Justice Department wants everyone to believe.
In reality, he's there to protect one man. Frank 'Reaper' Hays, a founding member of the white supremacist Aryan Brotherhood, is about to give evidence against members of his own gang for the brutal slaying of an undercover ATF agent and his family.
And just to make an already difficult job next to impossible, Reaper refuses to go into protective custody.
In a world dominated by violent men, where alliances are constantly shifting and no one can be trusted, Lock knows that he faces the toughest assignment of his career – just to stay alive...

Over the years, former military bodyguard Ryan Lock has made more than his fair share of enemies. It was only a matter of time before one of them came looking for payback . . .
A serial rapist brutally murdered inside California's highest-security prison for women. A frantic gun battle in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. A beautiful, young defense attorney violently abducted from her office.
