About the author

"Sizzles with drama, intensity and sensuality... "
"Chemistry and connection..."
"Knows how to keep her reader's attention and on the edge of their seats"
I've been a reader all my life and I wrote my first book at the age of eight, and haven't stopped since. Writing and reading have been my solace and my joy, stories are where I lose, and find, myself.
I also love traveling, a backpack and an airplane ticket are two of my favorite things. What else? I have the domestic skills of a pot plant, drink far too much coffee and have an on-off, mostly off, relationship with exercise.
I've written over fifty books and I write for both the Harlequin Presents and Desire lines. I've also published romantic action novels with Tule Publishing and Penguin/Random House's Intermix imprint.
I spent many boring years in sales, pro-business lobbying and local economic development, but now I'm lucky enough to write full time. I live with my husband in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa and am the mom of two amazing young adults. (Everyone says that but mine are spectacular. Everyone says that too...)
I am a slave to two spoiled cats and the worst behaved dog in the world, who also happens to be the size of a small cow. I love meeting readers, so come hang out with me on my social media channels.

This book follows Lowrie and Sutton. Lowrie is trying to pull her life together at her late uncle’s home-turn-inn in Maine. She had a nervous breakdown and was abandoned by her son’s father. Lowrie’s using the time as the inn’s manager to lay low and pull her life together. But she never expected Sutton to rent out the whole inn for two months and turn her life upside down.
Sutton has always known he was adopted, but he didn’t want to know anything about his birth parents. On his 35th birthday, lawyers from the adoption agency tell him he can inherit a fortune, but there are two conditions: he must stay at this inn in Maine for two months and attend a fancy charity ball thrown by his birth father’s family. Sutton definitely has issues revolving around his adoption that he has to work through, and on top of that, he’s not interested in relationships because he knows how hard it is to lose someone you love. But he starts to rethink everything once he meets Lowrie and her son.
I really liked Sutton and Lowrie together. They brought out the best in each other, and they just clicked, both of them being very artistic people. They just understood each other in a special way. But they both had some pretty severe issues to deal with, so they could reach their happily ever after.
The whole adoption aspect was interesting and not one I’ve read about in romances before. I enjoyed Sutton’s internal struggle with the whole situation, even though it did get a little repetitive as the story unfolded.
The Secret Heir Returns is a solid romance and stands well on its own. I’m sorry this was the final book in the series, and now I need to go back and read the first two books to see how everything started.
Sutton, a wealthy author, has to finally face his past… a past he had nothing to do with aside from simply being born. You see, Sutton is adopted and is in possession of a letter from his birth mother which he has never opened to read. He wants no part of that past considering his adoptive parents the only parents he needs or wants. But, unfortunately, he’s allowed the truth of his adoption to weigh on him in other ways mostly in wondering if he was truly loved for himself. Now, he’s facing yet another crisis when he is tracked down by the lawyers of his biological father’s estate with incredible news… and an option that will change his life, eventually.
Lowrie is a single mom with an adorable one-year-old son who is her life. She’s also the innkeeper at the location where Sutton must spend two months, and attend a fancy Valentine’s Day Ball before he can claim his inheritance. Lowrie also has a past that she’s shoved aside to focus on the present and the future with her son. She never expected the very rich, very handsome guest from the United Kingdom, who has bought out the other rooms in the inn for the duration of his stay, to be anything more than an interesting guest. She was wrong for this man will hold the answers to unlocking the pain of her past. And when the dust settles, become her lifelong love in every way that matters. But, there’s a lot of drama to survive before that happily ever after ending can become their reality.
I simply devoured The Secret Heir Returns and loved every moment spent back in this world. I’m not about to give away how all of this series will be resolved by the ending of this book… but what an emotionally charged ending it turned out to be. We get to catch up with the other couples from the earlier books, meet some amazing relatives of Lowrie’s, and finally see one old, bitter, egotistical jerk get exactly what’s coming to him when all the truths finally come to light. I have to admit that I felt rather smug at a few characters as they got exactly what they deserved. But it was Sutton and Lowrie I adored most. They are complex, complicated, and all too human in their reactions to what life has dealt them. Watching them allow someone else into their lives, to open the possibility for a future of unconditional love was simply an amazing way to end this series. I’ve had a blast, and would highly recommend this entire series. I do feel that it should be read in order as they build on the previous book’s reveals, but that’s my opinion. They could be read as standalone, but I think you’d be missing important details.

Sutton Marchant had no choice but to make his own way in the world. Having been rejected by his birth family, the author and finance whiz learned at a very early age that in this world, the only person you could rely on is yourself. Sutton is floored when the birth family he never imagined he would have anything to do with contacts him and asks him to fulfill the terms of his biological father's will. With his return to the family fold requiring him to stay at the Rossi Inn, Sutton has certainly got a lot on his plate and the last thing he needs is to find himself drawn to the inn's manager, single mom Lowrie.
Sutton has never felt this attracted to anybody in a very long time, but Lowrie gets under his skin and he cannot stop himself from thinking about her. As their feelings for one another intensify, will Sutton realize that the biggest prize of all isn't his inheritance, but finding everlasting love with the woman who means everything to him?
Joss Wood's The Secret Heir Returns is a dramatic, passionate and addictive romantic tale with a strong heroine, a sexy hero and plenty of scandal and seduction to keep readers glued to its pages.
Harlequin Desire readers know that they can rely on Joss Wood to deliver a red-hot read that aims for the heart and does not miss and she comes up trumps yet again with her latest novel, The Secret Heir Returns.
