Well worth the price of admission - about 1 1/2 hrs of your time. When I saw that Della Reese and Ossie Davis were lead characters I knew it would be good and I was not disappointed. Stellar performances by both. The main character, Jo Ann Foley, was apparently played by 2 sisters - Madeline and Yvonne Zima. Madeline played the 14-yr-old Jo Ann and her sister played the younger version. Little Yvonne was cute but not the best performer. Madeline was an exceptionally gifted actress in this role, completely authentic and endearing.
Sadly, this type of story was probably more common than we'd like to think during those desperate times around WWII. The girls' father was evil and the mother complicit. Shining a light on the exploitation and bigotry makes me wonder if these scenes are still being played out in real life, under similar circumstances today - maybe without the benefit of a "Secret Path".
