A heart-warming AND heart-breaking story.

Well worth the price of admission - about 1 1/2 hrs of your time. When I saw that Della Reese and Ossie Davis were lead characters I knew it would be good and I was not disappointed. Stellar performances by both. The main character, Jo Ann Foley, was apparently played by 2 sisters - Madeline and Yvonne Zima. Madeline played the 14-yr-old Jo Ann and her sister played the younger version. Little Yvonne was cute but not the best performer. Madeline was an exceptionally gifted actress in this role, completely authentic and endearing.

Sadly, this type of story was probably more common than we'd like to think during those desperate times around WWII. The girls' father was evil and the mother complicit. Shining a light on the exploitation and bigotry makes me wonder if these scenes are still being played out in real life, under similar circumstances today - maybe without the benefit of a "Secret Path".

A True Love Story

This movie is a gem that is suitable for everyone. It is the story of a young girl, Jo Ann, who has is living a hard-scramble life who meet a older couple who eventually offers her a pure love that her own family was not able to provide her.

She carries that love with her as she gets older and decides to share her story in a book. As she prepares to write her story she realizes that she hasn't truly fulfilled a vow she made as a child - to be the kind of mother that Sugar had been to her - a person who is loving and only tells the truth.

Wonderful Movie

I love this movie. A very powerful movie on friendship and prayer. The movie hits on a few painful topics like racism and abuse. Sometimes all a person needs is someone who believes in her and is willing to give her a chance. I highly recommend this movie.

This movie conveys the love between people from different walks of life. It reminds us that love is blind and people are all truly the same. Definitely a tear jerker. You won't be disappointed.
