Xander King is basically a superhero and everybody knows it and how great he is, which is the most ridiculous part of all the books and though it is less in this one than the others, is still very present. I think that if Mr. Wright would let us decide how great he is like Lee Child does with Jack Reacher, it would be easier to like him. I feel as though I don't have to like him because everyone worships him. This book does a better job than the past and credit is deserved.
My other biggest issue is the extensive, unrelenting, 'thinking' segments in the middle of the action and the justification for strange actions explained by more thinking. Patriotism and reminders for how great Xander and Sam are don't let up either. The 'thinking' doesn't come across as someone as experienced as Xander is supposed to be at all.
The story isn't bad and the pace is pretty good. The characters are okay. Not a lot of depth, but this is a thriller and many others don't have a lot of depth either, so I won't be too harsh on that. The writing has much improved over time and I found myself entertained.
Mr. Wright's work is getting better and I already think it is better than another mainstream bestseller I read recently that was ridiculous. I am glad he continues with the series and that changes for the better are being made. Good work Mr. Wright.
This was a waste of money, and more importantly, precious time when I could have been reading something better.
A tense thriller, full of unpredictable twists and diabolical plans. Bradley Wright has brought a deadlier X, a more determined X into the game of terror. Well done, sir!
