For 10 years, I’ve been using a magical sword that I won in battle to ruthlessly slay enemies, break evil artifacts, and open stubborn pickle jars, but I don’t know much about it.
That’s about to change.
Thanks to the fact that I’m dating a powerful dragon, I can get a ride to the dwarven home world, and we’re going to research the sword's roots. Not that I care much about its history, mind you, but several allies and enemies have suggested it can do a lot more than whack things. Considering the magical bad guys I fight are always stronger, faster, and more powerful than I am, I need every advantage I can get.
There’s just one problem: A half-dwarf thief has shown up and says she’s the rightful heir to the sword.
I want to believe it’s a scam and can’t possibly be true, but I didn’t get the sword in the most legitimate manner. If I have to give it up, I might not be able to do my job anymore, and just as bad, I’ll be a target for all the bad guys who have been waiting for an opportunity to take me down.

great to get a feel for their mutually supportive relationship in these books.
my favorite bit;
“That might get me if it’s a scintillating fast-paced fantasy novel with a suitable amount of romance and snarky banter.”
This author reminds me of Patricia Briggs. I said reminds me. I LOVE this series and characters.
Seriously from book one I'm reading them back to back. So IF you're on the fence start with book one.
With that thought, I hope you'll enjoy their adventure along side of me.
She employed undead magical skeleton beings from the land of the undead magical skeleton beings, and oh boy did that cause a lot if damage!
It turns out she wasn't the only one to blame for this. She was doing the bidding of a dragon "Lich." Said dragon Lich was from the clan of dragons we all know and hate. They feel superior to all others and want to rule all lands, and be worshipped and feared, bla bla bla...
There is also a lot of boring B.S. in this book about Val's wedding. Val's boss and wedding planner wants her to have a traditional wedding, which is too dumb for words. Val and Zav are not traditional. Val isn't even religious! The whole point of this is so that Zav can "put a ring on it" and have a visual representation of their mating for all humankind to see and know that Val is off limits.
The author is most definitely wedding crazy, and finds this hilarious for some reason, but I don't. All the little details about flowers arrangements, deserts and entertainment for this shindig is boring and ridiculous within the context of the story.
Honestly, it feels to me, like what I assume an innocent fantasy lover would feel watching "The Hobbit" movies that have been doctored and spliced with snippets of "The Wedding Planner" and "Mean Girls" sprinkled in. It's like an infection that keeps growing bigger and bigger in each installment to the series...one if these things is not like the others...
Also, the money thing is annoying. Its been going on since the beginning of this series, but I felt at first that Val and everyone would grow out of their obsession with money and payments. They haven't, and its tiresome.
Interesting world with magic and history elements.
Read the prequels first, or you feel as though you are attending someone else's high school reunion.
