'I'm only a mail clerk, 10 years ago I would have been embarrassed to be seen with my boyfriend but now that I'm 50 its okay' oye.
And this crap of not really seeing her and then poof 'I see' thing is a joke. It's been 10 years, no, stop it. Its dumb, not well planned and frankly is such an eye roll that my brain just hurts.
I'm going to make myself finish because I already spent the money but it's just another book that will be added to the now surprisingly growing stack of books by this author that I either regret buying or will never read again. It's really sad to be honest her books were so good but her new ones are just so... ugh... eye roll... cliche.. stereotype... current events... martyr... racism... white privilege... maybe romance.
I want my larger than life heros with confident woman back
While danger abounds as around all of Ms. Stoker's SEALs, I was completely drawn into the way that Storm, after realizing his interest in Jane, was all in, yet willing to let her set the pace and course of their relationship. He's a SEAL through & through, totally alpha and protective without being overbearing, and a definite candidate for a new book boyfriend who has been around the block a few times and has the benefit of the related wisdom.
Jane has been working in the mail room on base since her Navy husband left her and her child twenty years ago. She's worked her way up to manager but still delivers mail in the building herself. She's been crushing on Storm since his office moved into her building and delivering his mail is always a bright spot in her day. She doesn't delude herself that he'll ever notice her, but that doesn't stop the fantasy.
For the first time Jane and Storm had a conversation and he's now decided to get to know her more everyday and then ask her out. Of course that's when all hell breaks lose with a code black in the mail room.
Storm wasn't about to leave the building without knowing if Jane was okay. Finding out she was locked in waiting decontamination, he wasn't waiting. Pulling rank he entered the room determining the 'bomb' contained CS gas aka tear gas/pepper spray. This is where I fell in love with Storm.
While NCIS and Admiral Creasy work to determine who would send him the package, Storm and Jane's relationship takes a leap forward. Through the suspense, intrigue, and danger, Storm and Jane manage to date and they start heating up the pages quickly. Although Jane isn't going to be spared any of Susan's antics when it comes to her heroines. I also love the fact they're an older couple and it truly is a wonderful love story.
A perfect, page-turning end to the SEAL of Protection Legacy Series.
Storm North was a confirmed bachelor, his mistress was the Navy. He’d been a SEAL and a leader and when the time came, he took on the role as commander of several Seal teams. He wasn’t interested in hooking up, let alone dating or entering into a relationship. But then Jane walked into his office to deliver his mail. Suddenly, he changed his mind. Jane was definitely a lady he could see himself dating.
Jane Hamilton had been divorced for many years. She’d raised her 26 year old daughter as a single parent. She now was a contractor on the base, managing her own group of employees after 20 years. Life was what you made of it and she had no problem being realistic. True, she’d had a crush on Storm North since the first day she’d seen him, but she was no starry eyed teenager. There was no way he’d notice “Plain Jane”
What happens when a realistic woman and a confirmed bachelor open their eyes and take a chance is well worth the read. I couldn’t put this book down. It was short and I devoured it!
Definite 5 star and hopefully it will start a trend of good books about middle aged, mature adults getting a chance at true love!
Susan Stoker takes us through the story of Commander Storm North, a character who we have gotten to know through the different men and women making up the author’s writing career focused on the United States military and special forces.
Storm feels like he is too old to find love. Jane thinks that she is too old to have a crush on the base commander. It will take an attempted bombing for them to realize that they can have a future together.
This was a sweet and well deserved ending to the Seal of Protection Series, and one that I have been waiting for since Susan Stoker introduced him to her readers. Savannah Peachwood’s narration, as usual, was on point, as she is one of my favorite book narrators for Susan Stoker’s books.
Thank you to both Susan Stoker and Savannah Peachwood for bringing to life another wonderful story!

Jane works in the mail room at the naval base. She has crushed on Storm North from afar for a good while. Unbeknownst to her Storm also has an attraction to her, and one day finally pulls his head out his backside and decides to woo her. Unfortunately Jane gets caught in the crossfire of a possible disgruntled ex serviceman. Storm was beside himself and made clear to Jane how much he felt for her and how he’d like to see where they could go. Unfortunately the happy ever after won’t last long, as the bad guy doesn’t lay down for long.
I actually so enjoyed this story about finding love later in life. It genuinely really warmed my heart. Jane is a a amazingly strong woman and Storm was like a typical alpha male that we expect and love from Susan.
I love how I always seems to find something relatable to all of Susan’s characters.
Definitely still a one click author for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about finding love later in life and my only issue was the story ended too quickly!!
Unfortunately the course of true love never runs smoothly in a Stoker story but all works out in the end.
