Word is out, the soul eater has gone rogue, and not even the might of Osiris can stop him. Or so everyone believes. That would suit Ace just fine, but after he narrowly escapes an assassination attempt, he knows it's just a matter of time before those around him end up in the crosshairs of the gods. After 500 years on earth, it's time for Ace to go home. Little does he know, the underworld is hungry for revenge, and what awaits him in the Halls of Judgment could be far worse than any fate on Earth.

How do you make a pretty cool UF even cooler. Well setting most of this book in the Duat was a really good start. Add in some crazy deadly and dangerous beasts and of course the 12 gates of Hell to go through and I think you are there.
Ace is trying to lay low and is kind of in hiding except that is working out very well for him since it seems like all sorts of creatures from hell are finding him. That wouldn’t be a problem except for the god that is behind sending them and that they are getting more and more dangerous every new one that shows up. I had a slight Dune flashback for a second for one of them.
I love Ace. I think his character is fantastic and I’m really hoping that he remembers some of the things he has forgotten soon because I’m really for some of those jerkface gods mentioned before to pay. BUT…I think he might have someone more dangerous than them on his ass when those truths come out and I think the only thing more dangerous than a pissed off woman is one that is also a cat.
Cat is a great side character and I liked getting to know her a little better. There seems to be some chemistry between her and Ace. I’m really on the fence about them as I am still holding out hope that we haven’t see the last of a certain Goddess of Cats. But since this is my first Pippa DaCosta series I have no inking of where she is going to take that whole story arc.
I STILL LOVE SHU!!! I don’t care that she might be some snake looking demon in the Duat. She is fantastic. I love her games, her ferocity and her charms…all of them. I’m not sure what all her motivations are quite yet but it looks like she might actually be looking for redemption. Here is to hoping she doesn’t ever go all Mary Sue on us, because I love her as is.
After this book I have a few theories as to who/what Ace really is so I can’t wait to find out if I’m even close.
This series just gets better and better going along. Still the same love/hate complaint about the length of these novels but as long as Pippa keeps pumping them out at a steady pace I’ll be okay.
But his problems are also piling up. Anubis is on a tear and is done fooling around waiting for the Godkiller. Anubis is offering redemption for the Nameless One and Ace and Cat end up in the Underworld.
Once again, the action is face paced and DaCosta has created complex and compelling characters. Ace and Cat race across the Underworld to get Cat to the 12 Gates and her ticket out. How will Ace's heart do against the Feather of Truth, especially considering that Ace is missing a huge piece of the truth?
More and more isn't quite adding up in Ace's world. DaCosta is building up to something and the ride is worth it!
A bounty has been placed for the person who offers Ace up to the Halls of Judgment. The price - redemption for all your past sins. Pretty sweet pot and difficult for Ace to know who he can really trust.
If you like books about Gods, Goddesses, and awesome mythical creatures, with a kickass male lead, you definitely should give this series a go!
I especially like the character growth from the entire cast. It makes the world of gods and men come alive.

More hints about who ace really is and the true powers he has locked inside him
Awesome awesome awesome
When's the next one out can't wait

Characterization is, as usual, brilliant. Ace, Cat, Shu, and the wonderful array of certifiably nuts gods and weird creatures make for an awesome cast! Do we really have to wait until Spring 2017 to hear from this amazing crew again?! Please say it isn't so, I might not survive the wait!!
