The birth of a baby raven is expected any day now, and Ghost Mountain Pack is kind of falling apart, or at least their dominants are. A tiny ball of fluff calls on some of their most powerful instincts—and slices into their deepest wounds.
Rio knows it’s his job as sentinel to walk alongside those dominants as they struggle.
Which would be easier if he wasn’t one of them.

About the author

I tell stories of hope, resilience, belonging, and finding what (and who!) matters. I do that in a lot of different genres, but you’ll always get those things in an Audrey Faye book. :)

I'm usually sad when a book I'm reading is finished, but with Audrey's books I am also supremely calm and oddly satisfied. It's a good feeling. I like it.
I cannot emphasis enough just how important it is to read these books in order! You will only be extremely frustrated if you try to start with this one.
I highly, highly recommend this entire series. When I'm feeling really stressed out or depressed, rereading these books usually helps a lot. I adore them.
I discovered Audrey via the kindle unlimited program and I thank her for participating in it.
I began reading more than 50 years ago, and in all that time I’ve had the same favorite writer whose books I’ve read over and over through the years… at least he was my favorite till I started reading Audrey Faye’s work.
I loved Robert Heinlein’s stories so much because in all his tales he tried to write about what was best in us. When I finished one of his stories, I stood taller and walked prouder because I felt inspired to step up to the examples his characters set.
When I finish an Audrey Faye novel, I am moved to finding a way to open up my heart.
It’s impossible to grow to adulthood in this life and not grow a thicker skin. We’re taught to develop and work toward goals so that we have accomplishments we are proud of and/or that help others. Very often, the second part of that plan gets a little mangled because the help that most of us end up accomplishing is for our immediate families… nothing wrong with that, but the stories that Audrey tells make me want to help so far beyond that…
She makes me want to stop all the polite mannerisms and rituals we enact that says we have to ignore the little ills that happen to and around us every day. Things like ‘here’s a little something I made for you “ when what we really mean is "I took the time and energy and thought it needed to do this thing for you because it mattered a lot & you matter a lot.”
Audrey makes me question why we develop such isolating and unproductive ritual in the first place. How did denying something or someone’s importance ever prove helpful??? and yet it’s how we conduct business every day.
We’ve separated ourselves from each other, and I think it’s why we’ve lost touch with how connected we actually are to everything and everyone around us.
Every time I read a Ghost Mountain book, I try to hang on to the memory of heart a little longer because we need to remember who and what we were meant to be.
Thank you, Audrey Faye, for another book that gives us glimpses into belonging and caring that take so many forms, from tender to raucous. I can’t wait t reread them all now.
Top reviews from other countries

That said, another terrific book which was worth waiting for. Much more complex than other books in this series as it intertwines different members of the Ghost Mountain wolves pack. There are two main focuses of this book - Raven's new baby together with Xander and Milos homecoming. Xander and Milos homecoming was never going to be easy. You can see the progress made within the pack and it is nice to see the cats, ravens and Ivan (the polar bear) who all turn up for the birth. Don't want to say anymore as I don't believe in spoilers.
Not a cliffhanger but issues remain to be resolved in later book(s).

As always it is important to read this series in order and this, the 8th book in the series continues the recovery story of the pack.
We find out how the friends of the pack rally around as Fallon gives birth to the first baby of the recovery era. The climactic events of the book are disturbing as Milo Xander and Ruby return and it results in a dominance fight born out of trauma which is truly disturbing. I think this is the most nuanced book so far. Read it and enjoy

As always, Audrey Faye has outdone herself - this book made me laugh, cry and wish it would never end. I can't really say any more without spoilers and I'm not prepared to spoil this experience for anyone.
