Serve 'N' Protect (Federal K-9 Book 5) Kindle Edition
Ambushed and left for dead, U.S. Secret Service K-9 Officer Markus York is on the mend and laying low in a safe house while his team tracks down his attacker. But Markus isn’t good at sitting still. Even with his K-9, Ghost, for company, he gets restless and decides now is the perfect time to do some repairs around the house…and inadvertently tears open his wounds.
Fresh out of a bad relationship that ended after a car accident left her with limited mobility, freelance accountant Cassidy Morgan has sworn off men. At least, that’s the plan. Until a frantically barking dog leads her to a neighbor’s house where she finds a mysterious man out cold and bleeding on the floor...and mumbling things like “no, they’ll find me” when she tries to call an ambulance.
Yeah, that’s not at all concerning.
Despite Markus’s surly attitude, Cassidy senses there’s something else at work beneath his rugged, keep-your-distance exterior. Whatever it is, it’s sexy as hell.
With someone still trying to kill him, Markus doesn’t want an innocent to get hurt, let alone take care of him.
If only his dog wasn’t crazy in love with her.
If only the chemistry between Markus and Cassidy didn’t explode whenever they were in the same room.
If only Cassidy wasn’t a target now, too.

BAM this book caught my attention on page one and wouldn’t let go. Well-written, fast-paced and deliciously slow-burn romance with mystery and intrigue. It has humor that made me laugh out loud. I do not do that unless I’m caught off-guard and this book did that a lot. Cassidy is snarky with tongue-in-cheek come backs that will have you in stitches too. Markus is such a growly teddy bear, but why? All will be revealed. The love scenes are sizzling but there will be painful scenes too, for example at the end of chapter 25. If you don’t cry, check your pulse.
I’ve never read any books by Tee O’Fallon before so this was a real delight and highly recommended. I would suggest a burlier model for cover however. Other than that, I loved this book. If you enjoy mystery, intrigue and lust-to-love romance, read this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Entangled and NetGalley.
This book focuses on Cassidy Morgan and Markus York, both of whom have both inner and outer scars to heal. Cassidy has never met her new neighbor, the man who was living in her friend, John Freeman's house while John was overseas in Afghanistan. But one day, while she is trying to balance an audit of her client's taxes, she hears the new neighbor's dog barking in front of her house. Having been almost fatally injured in a car accident a year ago, Cassidy gets her cane and walks to the house next door. She finds the front window broken, and realizes the dog, a white German Shepherd dog, had apparently broken that window when he jumped through it to get her help. When Cassidy enters the house, she finds a large, good-looking man face down on the floor. She wants to call for an ambulance, but he says, "No. They'll find me and kill me." So, with all the strength she has, even though she is petite, and he is a good foot taller than her, she helps him outside to her car and takes him to the hospital. He tells her his name is Alex Adessio, but that is an alias. Is he a criminal? Or is he a good guy? This is book 5 of the Federal K-9 series written by Tee O'Fallon. The series is about a group of 7 federal K-9 agent friends and their K-9 partners, all German Shepherd or Belgian Malinois dogs. I guess you have your answer. The guy is a good guy who was nearly murdered a few weeks earlier, and his partner of the day was murdered a couple of days before that. He is staying at his friend's house until the murderer is found. After he and Cassidy leave the hospital, bullets almost take them out. When they get back home, the killer has figured out where he is staying. On top of that, Cassidy is house is burglarized and she's punched in the face by that person. Later in the book, even with a security system installed at her house, her house is broken into again and she is almost killed. Will she and her handsome neighbor be alive by the end of the book? My favorite character is, Ghost, the white German Shepherd dog. The author is splendid in capturing the psychological profile for the animals in her books. I appreciate this because I know that sometimes animals seem to have more hilarious and functional personalities than their human counterparts. You can almost always trick a human, but dogs are more intuitive when it comes to whom and whom not to trust. I gave this book 5 stars, just like I did the previous 4 books in the series. There are only 2 more of the K-9 friends left in this series: Jamie and Kade. I can hardly wait!
