How to find the end of the thread on a spool?

The end of the thread is tucked into the spun thread. If you look around the outside of the spool, you should see one thread that is at a bit of an angle and “disappears” behind other threads. Take a needle or a pair of tweezers and pull it out.

Are there needles with large eye? I am looking for needles that are easy to thread

I ordered this sewing kit because over the years mine is everywhere. Previous kits I inherited from my grandmother and mother were great but just not organized like this kit.

I'm not sewing quilts but for mending, quick fixes, button replacement - this is super easy to just grab and quickly sew. No hunting for scissors, they're included!

They pack a lot of value into this kit. So nice to have safety pins without going through my junk drawer LOL!!

Amazon shipped the package in a very thin envelope and the needle holder was shattered. I contacted Jessica and within 3 days she sent out a replacement, excellent customer service!! A purchase this small and only the round needle holder shattered - they could have easily just blown me off. Jessica even provided me a tracking number for the replacement!! So awesome of them.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase anything from this company. This would be a great gift for college students and a nice kit for kids who need to learn the basics of sewing.

The kit manages to hold a ton. I can’t imagine needing another tool for a rare sewer like myself who just needs to do the occasional mend or button. Very awesome kit.

I bought this sewing kit because I really wanted a kit to have at work which is where most clothing accidents happen. It has come in handy already when I had a shoulder seam come loose on a shirt while I was at work - it has plenty of color options of thread to use so you can match almost everything you wear. I like that it has so much more in it than just thread and needles - it really is an all purpose kit to keep in your desk for when you need it. It is also pretty compact and doesn't take up much room at all.

Its a low cost repair kit

My K9 kids tend to tear into their stuffed toys from time to time. This kit is kept in the drawer so I can perform the "surgical repairs" to the stuffed dog toys to prevent their total destruction. The quality of thread and items is ok, the contents aren't the highest end thread and these aren't premium sewing needles, but they aren't priced like premium items, either. I know I have paid more for premium sewing needles for my wife than I paid for this entire kit.

My wife is an expert seamstress and she said this is handy for small repairs and she liked the fact the kit contained a ripper, small scissors and snaps and buttons and thread of different colors. The case size is small and compact and its easy to put into your traveling bag so if something happens, you can replace a button or sew one back on. Would you want to use this kit to make your wedding dress, only if you are a barbie doll.........Think of this as a low cost repair kit which is handy to have available and your purchase will not disappoint you.

If you think you are expecting top quality sewing supplies, then you will likely be disappointed , according to my wife who knows these things. I ordered this kit on an Amazon Deal of the Day special and at 45% off the normal price, its a reasonable purchase. She said its fine for small repairs and feels its a reasonable purchase at the price. I know much more about hand tools in the garage and little about sewing, so I must defer to her judgement on these sewing matters.

Useful Sewing Kit for Basic Repairs

I purchased this as a gift for my daughter. I've not yet given it to her so can't speak to the durability of the items. They clearly aren't professional quality but look like they should fill the need she has to do minor repairs for her family. There are 30 needles of various sizes, small stainless steel scissors, thimbles that are quite lightweight, a seam ripper, needle threaders, and a quite large and varied color selection of decent quality thread spools. There are also the other pictured items that may never get used by many.

I was concerned by the negative reviews of the thread being inaccessible so I checked a few in my kit. If you find the correct end, which is usually in the top center of the spool, and not the inner end, which is usually visible under the thread, it unwinds without difficulty. It's not always easy to see but is the only logical way you can unwind a spool of anything, from the outside in.

I'm quite happy at this point, for the content and value, but durability will be the clincher. I feel that it will serve the purpose I purchased it for and would be a nice, thoughtful, and useful gift for someone that is only interested in doing the most basic sewing repairs without a machine.

If I have more information as time passes, I will update this review.

Haven't used everything in there just yet but high points are that the thread seems to be of decent quality without tangles and snags, the scissors are sharp, and the eyes of the needles are nice and tidy and don't snag thread on the way through. I've gotten these types of kits before and had to work with mashed needles and thread that just pulls apart so this is a step up in quality. My only complaint is that it's slightly too compact... It's hard to pull out one tool without it snagging on another and making a bit of a mess. It might be nice if there was a little extra space so you could add your own tools too...

I am the sort of person who sews purely out of necessity. If I notice a tear in a suit pant, I can go into my hotel room, take out my little travel repair kit, and put it to good as new again. The cat was being a jerk and pulled a thread on our new couch. I was able to use this kit to pull the fabric back together and not even the wife was the wiser. The wife noticed a seam coming undone on a shirt she loves, and this sewing kit was ready to go with the right colour thread. And the thread is great stuff. Not too thin, not too robust.

There are downsides to this kit (at least one I have experience) and it might just be my recklessness. I have broken at least two of the needles included with it, which is both dangerous and annoying. I have bent plenty of needles before but NEVER broken one mid-use. That’s a little concerning. Otherwise, I find it hard to fault the kit, it’s really well stocked with the supplies that I need. When the world starts travelling again, this will be part of my travel kit for work.

This kit looks great, has everything you would need for repairing, etc. However, I have been driven nuts, trying to use the spools of threat. You cannot find the beginning of the thread. I found a couple of threads which looked like a good place to start, but trying to unravel it was impossible. I wanted to mend something, and couldn't use the colour of thread I wanted because it couldn't be unraveled. Really frustrating. I'll have to buy separate spools.
