Growing up, I sometimes found myself being like Pops and not having my classmates accept me for who I am. While I knew who I was after having discovered my true self, I can imagine what the journeys she went on while helping ShBeep deal with the ordeals he was facing; after all, ShBeep didn’t look at himself as being a sheep, which was why he got thrown out of the herd he was part of by the rest of the sheep.
There’s a subliminal message that gets communicated to the book’s young readers, which teaches them that being different from everyone makes them unique and that they should accept their uniqueness in making them memorable.
For wanting his young readers to accept their uniqueness, so they know that they are really special, my inner-child and I have given this book and its author 5 STARS
“The book was very good. It had a happy ending and my favorite was all of Shbeeps and Poppy’s adventures”
The boys truly enjoyed it, as every chapter was full of laughter and “oohs” and “ahhs.” And some “eewws” too when it came to the fleas. The author uses some very comical language!
I personally appreciate all the things they learned and conversations the book facilitated. For starters they learned the word “unique” and how it is ok and even beautiful to be one of a kind. The book was also big on the use of imagination and how you can do anything through the use of your imagination. I am big into law of attraction, so this was a perfect way to introduce my child to the importance of believing on himself and imagining things into existence; Shbeep tells Poppy she can do and be whatever she wants if she closes her eyes and pretend. Shebeep is already part of the family and we talk about him/her all the time.
*the last paragraph was lovely. Once again it emphasized that every individual is beautiful and unique.
Also there is a 28 letter made up word in the last chapter that had me dying of laughter. My son was reading and had the most hilarious reaction until ultimately he just spout out gibberish and kept going like nothing happened (“balalalalala”). My sister heard us and we could not stop laughing all night. And he stopped reading to laugh too. I tried so hard to keep it in. But then we tried saying the word again syllable by syllable. Even that was a lesson on how to slowly try to pronounce new words.
They are looking forward to more T.E. Antonino books! Highly recommend.
