How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

* This is a review for Beyond the Veil by Pippa DaCosta only.

This is a solid 4 star read. I'm actually surprised by how much I liked this book. I love reading about half demons in a fictional earth in the present day and this book just hit the spot. Don't even get my started on the plots twists.

In the beginning, with Muse running back to her so called demon kind-of-not-boyfriend-king-dude was very annoying. The one thing the got me irritated with it was that she KNEW he was dangerous and probably wanted her head on a stick and yet she kept trusting him. She should have HUGE trust issues with the type of life she's been dealt. Every time she even thought about Akil it was like all rational thought flew out the metaphorical window. Backbone, where are you?!

I've decided that I'm Switzerland when it comes to picking a team in this book/series. Sure, Stefan is the obvious choice, but I just can't get over the fact that he f***ed Muse over the WHOLE book. He misled the heroine and the reader by default. To say the least, that hurts. On the other hand, I would never, in my right mind, pick Akil. If you've read the book, do you even have to ask? He's King evil incarnate (literally) with no redeeming qualities, period.

That ending cuts very deeply. I almost cried. It was THAT heart wrenching. After getting slapped upside the head with plot twists every five pages during the WHOLE book I still didn't see that ending coming. Really, Stefan? You just had to go and protect her like that?

Favorite Quotes:

"Stefan was right when he said you don't want to make an enemy of me. If I can kill my demon owner, I can certainly kill you."

"You were leading me right into the lion's den."

"The convenient 'gentleman's agreement between demons' excuse."

Book 1 Huntress Born by Aimee Easterling was good. I had read it before and as I recall it's NOT a cliffhanger
Book 2 Beyond the Veil by Pippa DaCosta was good and NOT a cliffhanger
Book 3 Justice Calling by Annie Bellet
Book 4 Getting Wilde by Jenn Stark is a cliffhanger, shame on Easterling for including it
Book 5 Wolves by C. Gockel is very descriptive with choppy sentences like a young teen would write, cliffhanger
Book 6 Empowered Agent by Dale Ivan Smith - quite good and NOT a cliffhanger
Most of these have some kind of romantic interest but to call them 'romance' would be a huge stretch. Sex? Nope, though I don't remember the specifics of the first book, I read it quite some time ago.
I'd also like to give the book's author/compiler a bit of a swat on the head for allowing cliffhangers to be put in this set.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was charmed by the cupcake-baking heroine of Huntress Born

This box set appears to have an exciting selection of urban fantasy novels featuring strong heroines. Each is the first in a series, so this is a nice way to discover new series that you might enjoy. Based on previous experience with these authors, I’m looking forward to reading several of the stories in this anthology, but so far, I have only read Huntress Born by Aimee Easterling, so my review is currently based solely on that story. I will update the review as I have time to read more.

Aimee Easterling reliably delivers fun shifter stories with exciting plots. Huntress Born is the first volume in her Wolf Legacy series, which is a spinoff of her Wolf Rampant Trilogy but can definitely be enjoyed alone.

I found Ember a charming heroine. I loved how she tried to solve so many of her problems with baked goods and was always guessing at what someone's favorite dessert would be. I liked Sebastien too, though I feel like we haven't really gotten a chance to know him very well yet. My main complaint with this book is that besides our main character, I felt like I didn't get to know or understand the other characters as well as I would have liked, so their actions didn't always make sense.

This was a relatively quick read that effortlessly captured and held my interest. The pacing was good and the plot was exciting. However, while I really enjoyed this book, it wasn't always an easy read. There are a couple of scenes featuring sexual assault, and while the text is never too graphic, it could be triggering for some readers. The story also ended much more abruptly than I was expecting, so keep that in mind if you dislike cliffhanger endings. Fortunately, Huntress Bound (Wolf Legacy Book 2) and the remaining two books of the series are already available.

I enjoyed all the stories, but the swaring was way too much! I liked that the heroine were weak like us yet stronger than the villains!

These are six very strong, non connected novels. They each are a lead off in a series, while complete in and of themselves.

This book was long; but kept you on your toes to follow the story. Each story was different and interesting. Don't think I will take on a book this long again
