A manipulative dragon shifter. A sexy phaetyn prince. Me? I shouldn’t even exist.
With peace established in Verald, I should be free; Lord Tyrrik is liberated from his blood oath, after all. But the freedom in Verald is an illusion. If I remain, destruction will surely follow.
As soon as I come into my powers, the blood-thirsty emperor of Draecon will know. Even now, he is hunting me.
When a Phaetyn prince arrives promising safety, the solution seems perfect. A little too perfect. But is the objective of our group security or something more? Because everyone is telling me what my goals should be.
Who do you trust when everyone has lied to you?
Should I listen with my head – or my heart?
I might not get a choice.

About the authors
RAYE WAGNER hates writing bios. She’d much rather tell you a story. She’s partial to fantasy, with dragons or magic or something so she can lie and not feel guilty. She also has an obsession with sweets (all the bakery goodies), nerf wars, wigs, and occasionally tutus.
When she isn’t writing, shenanigating (I’m sure that’s a word), or lying, Raye is with her family . . . preferably at the beach.

I so enjoyed seeing Ryn learn about being a Drae and what we learn of the Drae race. On the flip side, I wasn't so thrilled with the Phaetyn prince. I wanted everyone to leave Ryn and Tyrrick alone to explore their feelings and it was clear Kamoi wasn't on the same page as me. Ryn learns that no race or kingdom is a paradise in so long as the emperor is around. Ryn grows and makes her decisions and I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.
Cons:
-My main issue in both books is Ryn. She was ALWAYS angry about something, constantly throwing tantrums and treating kings and queens disrespectfully. Basically she acted like a spoiled 12 year old the whole time. She was quite self-centered.. I would have loved to see more growth in her as long as other admirable qualities such as compassion, bravery, generosity... but it seemed like she became even more naive and immature since book 1, which I don't get if she is an 18 year old who grew up in a war torn, starving land her whole life. I would think she would be a little tougher and less emotional.
-Also I couldn't get passed the way she spoke.. she speaks like a homeschooled teenager from the 21st century, while as everyone else's speech matches the background world. A lot of her inner dialogue was just... unnecessary and cringeworthy.
Pros:
Loved Tyrrik. Definitely favorite character and worth the read for him lol. Except he was out of it most of the time!
It was entertaining, not as good as the first one, and like I said, Ryn will annoy you. But I got through it. Haven't decided if I will read book 3 yet.
With each new addition to this story, I get pulled in deeper. There is so much more to the stories than we see from the outside, and everything comes from these two authors with such vibrancy and excitement that it leaves the story with no down-time. There is continuous backstory as we learn more about every character and their parts in this tale. It is beautifully and colorfully written, and makes me yearn for the next one.
These ladies surpassed what they did in book 1. I could NOT put this down. There were omg moments, ball your eyes out moments, and wtf moments. This book follows almost directly after the first with maybe a day or two gap. In this book we get see a whole new side to Tyrrik, you know, since the events of the last book happened. And its a side I'm liking, not that I didn't like him in book 1. You also get to see Ryn grow into her new powers and destiny. I love how Raye and Kelly take us on this journey with Ryn and allow us to learn and grow with her.
To say the least I loved this book! I am dying for the next one! I suggest, that you clear your schedule to read this because once you start, you won't want to stop.

Ryn grows and develops in this book but is still her usual funny self. I love her as a character and her attitude to everything around her but she also has a heart of gold. Her inner monologues crack me up and she's no longer as naive as she once was, which in some ways is sad, but in the world she's in she needs to be clever and guarded.
Yet again the world building is sublime. As I was reading I could clearly see each place described in my mind. This is one of those books where I really am transported into the boom itself and felt like I was experiencing, seeing and smelling everything the characters did.
Now to Tyrrik, my dear, dear Tyrrik. Oh how my heart fell even more for him in this book, so much so that I'd quite happily push Ryn aside and take her place, except I respect Ryn. Tyrrik is a beacon of strength for Ryn and would do pretty much anything for her, even if she doesn't agree with it. Their relationship didn't have the best of starts, but in this book they get to know and understand each other better.
This book would get a gazillion stars from me if I could give that many. I really loved reading it and enjoyed it so much. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series, and am also hoping that both of these authors don't just stop at writing three books together as they've created magic with these books which I'm addicted to.
