I have a high tolerance for bad sci-fi, horror, fantasy, etc...but, I could only watch two episodes of this. The production is good. I like Alec and Isabelle. No problem w/the actor portraying Jace. Kat McNamara though...not so much. Clary needs a strong leading actress and McNamara is not it. She comes off more like a little girl playing dress up in mommy's naughty clothes. Obviously, this story is not based in reality, but to have Jace and Clary making goo goo eyes at each other so quickly is just silly. I liked Simon at first, then he became downright annoying. I was actually embarrassed for him. Less sycophant and more lovable nerd would do the character justice. I wanted to like this series, but given that Clary is central to the story and I think she was miscast (no disrespect meant to McNamara, not every role is suitable for every actor) two episodes is all I'm in for.

I LOVE this show! As a huge fan of the books, I came into this series and decided to have a clear mind and just watch it. After all I knew it was going to be different and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. I have watched both season 1 and 2 so this review actually goes for both of them. I LOVE the acting, it gets better and better. It's obvious these actors/actresses care about the characters and are working very hard. The story is entertaining and it keeps you wanting more. I for one hope this show continues for a long while. One thing I have to say is that there is one twist in here that I wasnt expecting. However, because of that twist I have hopes for a certain future character.To anyone who is a fan of the books, I urge you to keep a clear mind and just go into this show wanting to have fun and you'll love it.

Very entertaining. It reminds me of a cross between Charmed, Supernatural, and Harry Potter. It has gay characters, which is extremely important to me. I only found one weakness. Episode one was pretty strong, but after that, the next couple of episodes were not as strong. I wasn’t convinced by Clary Fray’s transition from being a young kid, inexperienced of the ways of the world, and ignorant of who she really is to being an empowered and knowledgeable woman. It felt very rushed to me.....as if the writers wanted to jump right into the action. I wish the writers had taken more time in developing Clary’s character as she went through her journey of self awareness.

Well I read these books many years ago and just realized that there was a movie, that I watched and loved... I went to find the second movie and low and behold there is instead this terrible tv show... but I paid for it so I watched it all. The actors are terrible. They stop to talk about their feelings every 10 seconds saying the same thing over and over. It’s cheesy as can be. No!

I am a huge fan of the book series. The actors suck and the storyline is changed in a way that either the end will have to be different or they dont plan on the show lasting until the last book. I am thinking this show is meant for young teens with the quality of acting. There is no real depth. Clary I want to like, but comes off as more 'oh poor me' than awesome heroine. I saw Vampire Academy with 'Jace' and he does better at that role than this pretend tough guy role. The main characters in that though had more depth than in this. I am 12 episodes in and it took me this long to not watch every episode and be super mad. I dont even like how many Shadowhunters are everywhere and the layout of the Institute. A really old building would not have open floor plans to every room and it starts with an infirmiry with horrible layout. Im going to stop because I could keep ranting. I really liked the movie even though some changes.

I originally hated the show because of how it deviated from the original story, but now I treat it as a completely different story and I'm good with that. Honestly, the only reason it gets three stars is the acting of the secondary characters and the basic storyline. The actors playing Clary and Jace could, and should, be replaced. Jace is so one-dimensional, he is boring, there is no spark, nothing to make you interested in him. I just can't stand the actress playing Clary. Her hair color looks so fake to me it's hard to look at her and, to be charitable, her acting is more suited to a college stage than a professional arena. She could disappear from the show and it would be more watchable. The "romance" between Clary and Jace is totally unbelievable as the two have zero chemistry. They seriously act like the director grabbed two random strangers off the street, told them they were a couple, stuck a camera in their faces and screamed "Action!" By contrast, the acting of Alec and Magnus makes their non-romance believable, interesting, and actually makes you hope they finally get together. I watch the show for Luke, Simon, Alec, Magnus, and Isabelle. Even the guy playing Raphael is orders of magnitude better in his bit part than the two main characters. Actually, to be absolutely honest, the only reason I'm still watching is that I stupidly paid for the whole season and hoped it would improve more than it has. If the main actors stay, I doubt I'll watch season 2.

I love the show and loved all the books. The cast is more like I envisioned than the cast in the movie. I did like the movie but feel it did not get off the ground as it should have. It needed more exposure just like what is on youtube now. As to the color of clary's hair it is just as described in the books. I would love to see a movie of the clock work Angel or a TV movie how great would that be? So all of us fans need to support the shows as much as we support and love the books. That way we will see more of the lovely Clary and that fair and handsome Jase. Lets support all of the actor's in their roles as they put the idea's from Cassandra's books on to the screen. I'm enjoying the series so far. I am a huge fan of the books and even though the series isn't following the books 100%, I am happy with the results up to this point.

I agree with another reviewer that the actress playing Clary isn't the most believable in her role; but I think she is a very talented actress and I am hoping she will grow into the role as the series progresses.

I am thrilled with the actors portraying Jace, Magnus, and Alec ... I think they are terrific in their roles. I think the movie would have done much better than it did if the actors in the series had starred in the movie.

Overall, I like the series so far and am anxiously awaiting the next episode.
