So this is fairly standard Shaw Brother's fare.
This isn't the best of the best, but I think it deserves 5 stars over 4.
Chang Cheh directs - which is generally enough for me to enjoy a kung fu film.
Standard learn specialized training to beat the kung fu skills of the main bad guys.
5 sets of training sequences. 2 boss level villians, 2 evil lieutenants, and a bunch of Manchu minions (not to be confused with Manchu soliders that usually carry spears or are requiped with a bow and arrows).
Chi Kuan-chun and Alexander Fu Sheng (which always make a great pair or, at least, they are often paired together like Ti Lung and David Chiang) along with Gordon Liu and a bunch of other martial artist from the Shaw Brothers stable.
Suprise appearence of Yuen Siu-tien aka Sam the Seed!
... and the non-standard (for Chang Cheh films) appearance of two love interests, but don't think that makes this a date-movie. Basically, it's the Black Dynamite thing; "How many times have I told you not to call me and interrupt my kung fu?"

Some of the best fight choreography I have seen in any 'karate' movie. No crazy, impossible jumps & flips and the Kung Fu is mostly believable so it's not the typical Chinese karate movie film of the 70's.
There is not much to fault with this "Shaolin Martial Arts" 1970's film. Even being initially released in 1974 the film quality is quite good. The dubbing could be better but the English audio is clear & not heavily accented and subtitles are sufficient. It drags at times, the score is terrible for some scenes and some scenes are a bit too silly but overall it moves along and completes the serious theme.
I'd watch it again.

Love the Shaw brothers movies. Alexander FuSheng is definitely one of my favorite kung fu actors. If you are into the 1970's martial arts movies, then this is a must have.

The video was remastered and excellent quality. Would purchase again from this vendor. Also, this was dubbed in English so you do not have to read any subtitles.
