Roger Priddy is the creator of over two hundred best selling books for young children including Wipe Clean ABC, First 100 Words, and Fuzzy Bee.
When he was at school he couldn't decide between being a patisserie chef or going to art college. On the advice of his father he chose art college and trained as an illustrator before becoming a designer at Usborne Publishing.
Roger's love for children's early learning has led him to create some of the most successful children's non-fiction books, first at Dorling Kindersley (My First Word Book, Incredible Cross Sections and My First Cook Book) before he set up Priddy Books with St. Martins Press in New York where several of his books have sold over a million copies each including First 100 Words, My Big Animal Book and Happy Baby Words.
In total he has sold over 65 million books worldwide and his books have been translated into over 30 languages.

I almost didn't consider this book when searching for a book for my four year old. I think of Priddy Books as board books for infants and toddlers, but not for older children. I'm glad I took advantage of the "look inside" feature and read the reviews. This is a great book, and I chose it over others because it had actual photos and not illustrations, and the text seemed age appropriate. I'm so glad I got this book. The text is just the right amount, with interesting facts, fun fonts and colored highlights of key words, just enough to educate, but not lose the interest of a four year old. The jaws of danger rating and size comparison to an adult given for each animal provides a great interactive opportunity for the young child on every page. Both my four and six year old sons enjoyed this book. If you are looking for a gift set, I recommend this book along with the tube of sharks from Wild Republic; seven of the twelve sharks in the tube are described in this book, and each shark is labeled with it's name on the belly for easy identification! I'll be looking to get other Priddy books in this same line.

My 5-year old LOVES this book! He can't read yet, but he has each page memorized by asking me to read it to him repeatedly. And I mean repeatedly. The format of the book is excellent. It's not overloaded with info, but has just enough to let him know the main characteristics of each creature. The pictures are not the scary shark with mouth wide open with blood and nothing but teeth kind of picture, unlike some other shark books we found at the library. He can't stand those scary pictures. This is an amazing book that is well worth the money. The book is big too.

My son and I love these books (all Roger Priddy books pretty much). Pictures are great and I love the little fun facts and humor he uses throughout. Also, thank you for not including graphic/gross photos of animals eating each other. So many of these kids books about sharks, dinosaurs, whales, etc have them chowing down on seals and such and its not what I or my 4 yr old wants to be looking at (esp. before bedtime lol).
