Very Good Movie & Worth Watching
Verified purchase
I like non-fiction movies. There are many that deal with domestic abuse & most of them are well done. It's actually a sad statement of our times that there is no shortage of real-life material for such movies.

The two main actors in this movie did an excellent job portraying their true-life characters, especially Michael Nouri - who played the abusive husband exceptionally well. While watching the movie, there were several moments when I wanted to yell at Lindsay Wagner's character & say something like, "You Idiot" which means she played her role well. There were other moments when Ms. Wagner's character consulted a priest for "guidance" when I wished something heavy would fall on the priest - like when he suggested she "Go home & love this man & look to the heavens for guidance" after he'd already beaten her severely several times. I've known women who were recipients of the same idiotic advice from priests...and also the scars that result from it.

I'll never completely understand why a woman's self esteem can be so low that they choose an abusive wound-up spring for a boyfriend or husband.

Very Profound

Lindsay Wagner has always been one of my favorite actresses, all the way back to her days on The Bionic Woman, thankfully through later projects, she was given the chance to show her enormous acting ability and range. It is disturbing to watch, it is about domestic violence, kids are involved, co-dependent, battered wife who is afraid to leave her comfortable lifestyle, and a classic Jekyll & Hyde husband, played superbly by Michael Nouri, you may remember him most, from "Flashdance", he also has shown his great ability as an actor these past couple decades and has enormous range as well. I am satisfied, it was well worth the purchase, would definitely recommend it.

Domestic abuse accurately portrayed
Verified purchase
I give this a 3-1/2 star because of the excellent acting by Lindsay Wagner, and really all of the actors. Also, the theme of spouse abuse was presented quite accurately, at least for many cases where the wife continues for years to believe that all will be better and her husband is finally changed and will never again hurt her, as he promises repeatedly. Add to that, self-esteem issues on the woman's part, desperately wanting and needing his love and admiration. Of course, personally, I ask the question why would she have 4 children? But, again, that is often how the illusion works in these kind of domestic situations. I liked the way the movie covered many years over time and depicted changes in her as she matured and began to find herself (always a threat to the spouse abuse types).

Very good. I rented this because Michael Nouri is so good looking but really liked the movie and how strong Lindsay Wagner was at the end to overcome her abuse. Michael Nouri well he did a fine job acting but regardless he’s just enjoyable to see in any movie because of his good looks.

Excellent story of a woman's journey back to self esteem.

Very good movie, especially for the time period it was made. Story is a common one of women who stay far too long with an abusive husband in a high profile career. This movie really tries to get across why so many women feel trapped in these relationships, especially when they have many children, and zero self esteem from years of not only physical abuse, but mental abuse from a domineering control freak. Both Lindsey Wagner and Michael Nouri are excellent.

A Woman can fight back and find the help to do it.

Shattered Dreams showed how a battered wife, could fight back, without killing her spouse. Lindsay Wagner and Michael Nouri were brilliant in their roles, a movie you wouldn't get a lot of media coverage on, but worth a look.

True Story of Inspiration and Courage!

This is a movie based on the book by Charlotte Fedders, a battered woman married to a very high-ranking official in a presidential administration. The movie depicts their first meeting, the clues about him that she decided to ignore, and the outcome of his abuse on her children. Her final break from him should inspire anyone who feels trapped in an unhealthy relationship!
