Great movie about life choices
Verified purchase
This is a great movie about life choices and the consequences it has (or the consequences we fear it will have if we make certain choices). It showed how we're all connected by choices.

The movie started looking like a typical comedy buddy trip movie (I was actually unimpressed at first), but as the story unfolds, it just amazes. There's depth to these characters. Like many reviewers said, we can really relate and emphasize with these struggles. Great story about life.

Also like other reviewers, great scenery!

the cinematography is good, the characters are not

Having grown up in the Bay Area I am a sucker for movies shot in Northern California. The scenery is the only thing I liked about this movie, and I couldn't get behind the main characters. The whole time I was watching this movie I was wondering why the female characters were so awful. Then come to the credits... Male written, male produced, male directed, not a female name in the credits until costume design... That explained a lot.

Some thoughtful elements and great scenery

Being a native northern Californian and current Portlandian, this was an interesting movie from the geographic perspective. Unlike some of the not-great reviews, I liked to slower pace of the movie, and some of the tussles of emotions and choices that the two guys had to make. Like the Leggett hippie couple, I've been married for 50 years (and yes it's entirely plausible that these two old hippies are in Leggett), and a lot of history happens in that amount of time. Are we still happy with the choices we made at 18? Well, they are different as the years go by. People you love may not be the ones you are in love with. I wouldn't make a choice for somebody else, and it's not easy to know what is the best one for any given time in your life.

Rubbish

Slow...slow ...slow!! Plot is lame and almost non-existent. Some decent scenery from highway 1, from L.A. to Oregon, but not enough to save this waste of time!

Entourage, lite

A male fantasy but with a moral sensibility. A beautifully shot buddy road-trip pic where the women have beauty, brains and philosophy. But the story suggests that bad boy party antics are not without consequences and it's good to see the main characters owning up to those, albeit only after we see it's gone too far. Mostly a very enjoyable escape, confirming that it's not the destination that counts the most (though it does count!) but the journey. Worth a watch for guys, not sure if women would appreciate its purely male viewpoint.

Excellent film all around

There were a couple of moments where I thought this was going to "go south" on me but just as I would be getting ready to turn it off and chalk it up to being another cheap amoral cliche of a movie, a choice would be made and the story would veer away from ugly to beautiful. Well written, well acted, well directed and produced, it is an excellent story about relationships of all kinds, friendship and commitment without ever becoming simplistic; it deserves every one of its five stars as far as I 'm concerned.

I Really Enjoyed This

It is so difficult these days to find a movie that doesn't have cartoon/comic book characters, isn't a horror flick, or 'action' movie. I enjoyed the cinematography, the pace, and the story of these two guys revisiting their youth and life decisions as they rolled up the coast. I imagine most of us, at some point in our lives, have wondered about the one who got away or our decision to be with the one we have.

Feel good movie

It's a cute little movie probably could have been a little shorter. A little predictable but these days it's nice just to watch something that is a feel-good movie.
