Like others, I was confused about where to find Season Two but after looking into it, it seems that Episodes 1 and 2 both included here. Season One is just the first two episodes and the other six are Season Two. Great acting and wonderful atmosphere.

Riveting crime Drama
Verified purchase
We love Vera series so on a recent trip to Shetland we learned about this series. Its is a true homage to the lovely Shetland country side and people and a riveting crime drama. It has the same twists and turns you expect from Ann Cleeves but with even more compelling characters. "British" crime drama is a leap ahead of US television in plotting and character and this is the best of the lot. Characters you can believe. who grow with each season . The scenery and locals around Shetland do the "country' proud.

"Pound for a Kiss?"
Verified purchase
This and other Scottish linguistic gems will keep you smiling as you enjoy this delightful BBC procedural. Not sure what that Magic is the BBC has in taking seemingly small-ish situations and turning them into compelling and memorable televised entertainment. Okay i'll correct myself. I do know. It's CHARACTER. They just know how to get you engaged with these engaging characters and you're rooting for them all the way.

Also a BIG plug for the Cinematography in Shetland. Just gorgeous. Makes you want to just run out in the Heather (the Heath? how would I know?) and get you sensible shoes all covered in dew.

Oh... "Pound for a Kiss?" What? Big double-take here when I heard that one. After a fair amount of Google-Digging it's apparently a trickle-down from an old Scottish Wedding tradition. I quote:

The Hen Party these days is usually a wild affair but its origins are much more sedate. The bride's friends and neighbours would give her gifts of food that could be used at the wedding feast and, a few days before the wedding, the women would get together to prepare the hens which were usually part of the feast. There would be singing and joking together and a ritual of 'chantie' jumping was performed. This involved the bride jumping over a chamber pot in the street. Those who passed by would drop money into the pot in exchange for a kiss from the bride to be, which was considered good luck. Some modern hen nights incorporate this tradition.

So... Pound for Kiss? :-)

Labelled Drama, but definitely a Mystery!

Absolutely loved it! It's sooo good to see Henshall again, NOT being chased by prehistoric animals! The storyline and characters were well written and meshed well together on screen. Even the younger lady fit right in, it is a great series! I started watching WITHOUT buying the whole season and before I knew it I had ordered almost the entire season!

I was hooked from the first epi's! The storyline def grabs you and pulls you in. The outcome for each epi was a surprise, which is either great or just means I have low intelligence for solving mysteries (hahaha). Thoroughly enjoyed the series, spent all day watching and re-watching the epi's I purchased. I will purchase the rest of the season and will watch them over and over again.

My new favorite!

If you've read Ann Cleeves's Shetland books, you'll be thrilled to see them come to life in this excellent series. Doug Henshall is brilliant as Jimmy Perez, and the supporting crew are excellent, as well. This and "Vera" are my favorite shows, both born of Ann Cleves's books. The scenery is breathtaking. The acting is superlative.

Gorgeous show riddled with plot holes
Verified purchase
Love the environment, main character is sufficiently compelling and plots are more or less intriguing. However, I’m definitely just watching this show because I’m homesick for the UK’s moody skies and recuperating in bed from being ill. They should rename Swiss cheese Scottish cheese in honor of this show and its many plot holes of myriad shapes and sizes. A nice relaxing watch if you’re not looking for an intellectually satisfying experience.

Oh P.S. to script writers everywhere- making a teenage daughter moody and dictatorial is not the same as creating an interesting, complex character. It’s getting a bit old. K thanks.

Good adaptation.

I had read all the books in this series by Ann Cleeves. Will have to admit the TV adaptation met my expectations, though the actor playing Jimmy Perez was not what/who I expected (I'm totally over that now, by the way - LOL). Worth your time. If you're in the US, you may need to have closed captioning or sub-titles turned on. The accents are pretty thick.

Good Cop

I got hooked on this series from the very first episode. We're on a remote island in Scotland and we have a very handsome widowed police chief who has to solve a murder. It takes him 2 episodes to find the killer, so we have lots of suspects to consider, and we always pick the wrong one. At the end of Season 2, there are multiple murders, and the last installment is about 5 episodes long. Beautifully acted and very engaging.
