Shielding Aspen (Delta Team Two Book 3) Kindle Edition
An impulsive kiss, a jealous ex, and her future in the balance. He might be exactly what she needs.
Desperate to ditch her ex once and for all, when Aspen Mesmer asks a complete stranger to kiss her, she never expects to feel an immediate connection. Despite already dealing with one soldier she can’t shake, Aspen would be a fool to ignore the intense chemistry she shares with the Delta Force operative. Even better, he shows her the respect few others offer in her male-dominated profession. It’s clear she’ll never have the camaraderie she craves with her own platoon, but maybe…just maybe…she’ll find it with Kane and his team.
Kane “Brain” Temple isn’t the kind of man most women look at twice, so when Aspen makes her interest clear after their impulsive, explosive kiss, he’s thrilled. As a combat medic attached to a Ranger team, Aspen is pretty impressive in her own right. She might be one of the few women who can not only handle Brain’s frequent deployments, but understand exactly how dangerous his missions can be. Bonus: she’s not turned off by his nerdy tendencies. It’s as if Aspen was made just for him.
Her ex disagrees. He’s not handling Aspen’s rejection well, or her deepening relationship with Brain. Being thrown over for a Delta is humiliating, and he’ll do anything to make her regret it.
** Shielding Aspen is the 3rd book in the Delta Team Two Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

This story in particular places a lot of emphasis on the gender inequality, particularly in the military. I'm glad Susan acknowledges this but there is no reason to shove it in our faces every other chapter. I realize this issue is how Susan defines her characters (bad guys view women as second class citizens and good guys view them as partners) but its annoying when every other character uses the same cliches and catchphrases to either denigrate women or build up their confidence.
Another thing I really enjoyed about Shielding Aspen is that the hero is Brain! You know how there is one supporting character in a series that you just develop affection for? Brain is that guy for me in this series! Aspen is a good match for him - she was attracted to him the first time she saw him and before she knew what he did or any of the stories about him. Once she heard the stories, she still saw the man Brain is. Brain thrives on Aspen's acceptance of him for himself, and he is proud of her accomplishments. Having mutual respect and affection for each other serves Aspen and Brain well when Aspen is deployed to Afghanistan and later when they take part in a humanitarian mission in Texas. No spoilers here, just going to say the bad guys are really really bad and karma functions in unusual ways.
I highly recommend Shielding Aspen, and although it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone.
Brain and Aspen are a beautiful couple!
This whole weirdness at the end after he gets hit in the head is just beyond stupid. Someone else attacked me so I'm going to take it out on my girlfriend.
BUT said girlfriend is more alpha then I am but still puts up with this crap?! Yeah no... I dont believe it.
All of her books are starting to sound like her previous series and the rambling over describing scenes are getting old, fast.
I'm invested in the previous books I'll continue on with the next but this book is probably one of those books that I'll read once and never read again when I go back over this series.

This series just keeps getting better and better with each book that comes out. One thing I really enjoyed about Shielding Aspen is that the hero is Brain! I loved how the characters complimented each other, I can't wait for the next book in this series..... Keep up the awesome work Susan.
There paths have never crossed even though they are based at fort hood, Killeen and average night out side a bar when Aspen strong independent woman finds solace in the arms of Kane to avoid a ex partner. Brain is know to his team as the genuine and knows so many languages from different countries and uses that skill in the field. Both Aspen and Kane conquer many obstacles in their path and Aspen fights for equality and dreams of being in a team no questions asked and finds it through Kane .
Brett Young - Change your name and Natasha bedingfield -powerful of sunshine song best describes the characters and romance between them both a timid guy who has an high IQ to a smart woman making a statement that will leave a legacy behind. Highly recommended reading loved the characters and romance and the journey so far
Loved this story and although you know there's going to be plenty of action whilst they're deployed and plenty of obstacles that get in the way of their developing relationship, it's a great read and a page turner. Definitely recommend.
Brain is the template of my perfect man and I want to be Aspen when I grow up ( I don't care if I'm almost 40 lol).
The story flowed lovely and had unexpected turns together with subtle introductions to future characters .
Susan Stoker has an immense skill for writing with enough action to compliment the romance without either shadowing the other. I look forward to each and every book she releases. But more important for me personally, I love rereading her books too!
