Shielding Sierra (Delta Team Two Book 8) Kindle Edition
Some connections are more intense than others. How far as they willing to go to keep that bond alive
As a civilian contractor, Sierra Clarkson thought she’d found the perfect way to serve her country, short of joining the military…until she was kidnapped from a base in Afghanistan. Turns out terrorists don’t care if you’re a soldier or not; everyone bleeds the same. Even worse, no one knows she’s been taken. Her missing belongings point to desertion—which means no one is looking for her, either.
But someone is.
Fred “Grover” Groves never forgot the redheaded spitfire working the chow line on a base in the Afghani desert. He’d felt an instant attraction to the petite woman, a connection deep in his bones…which Sierra herself clearly didn’t feel, since she’d promised to keep in touch after his mission ended, only to ghost him—and seemingly her job.
But she didn’t.
When several contractors go missing from the base, it looks more and more like Sierra didn’t abandon her post. Then a long-lost letter proves she’d followed through on her promise to stay in touch with Grover—and suddenly, all bets are off. He bucks every protocol he’s ever known after returning to Afghanistan. If Sierra’s still alive, he’ll find her. Or die trying.
But Sierra is hardly a damsel in distress. Grover witnesses her strength and bravery firsthand in a dark desert cave. And at home, against a common enemy, he’ll witness her sheer nerve, her deep love, as they both fight for the life they’re trying to build together.
** Shielding Sierra is the 8th and final book in the Delta Team Two Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

I normally enjoy this author, but this was disappointingly unrealistic.
POV: Dual 3rd Person
Stand Alone Status: This is not a stand alone novel.
Sierra and Grover’s story started a few books ago and I know I am not the only one who highly anticipated this story. Sierra has been in the hands of the enemy FOR A YEAR! Grover wouldn’t give up though, he knew she was out there! At the end of the last book he got himself purposefully taken in order to find her, and this is where our story begins…. Who wouldn’t want to read this book like, right now after the ending of the last one?
Susan Stoker is a masterful story teller. To be completely honest I haven’t read a single book that I wouldn’t say I loved, and this one falls into that same category. I absolutely adored it. Who wouldn’t love a hero who purposefully becomes a POW in order to save the girl? Who wouldn’t love a heroine who out smarts the enemy at every turn? Sierra and Grover were written in the stars. There is now way these two wouldn’t be perfect together. Their chemistry is amazing. Their banter is the stuff readers like me live for. Their story… wow! Just…. Wow! This book was so good that I had to wait a bit to write the review. I couldn’t find my words. It literally left me speechless.
I don’t like to give away spoilers so I am about to get vague, but there was one aspect of Sierra after her capture that made me think of myself after a traumatic experience I had. This made me more able to relate to her and made me feel closer to her. It really aided in my enjoyment of the story. This whole series has had me feeling especially close to the characters but Sierra totally stole my heart.
If you haven’t read the series pick up the first book today, if you have read the other 7 books then I am sure I don’t even need to say it but I will…. Get This Book! You’re going to love it!
Happy Reading my Friends!
Grover's team does show up and they manage to accomplish getting them away and the well-deserved demise of Shahzada.
I really loved their homecoming, Tex met them at the airport with not only a phone for Sierra, but it was loaded with a slew of phone numbers she could call for anything she may need. He also arranged for both her and Grover to spend time at The Refuge, a facility catering to veterans and civilians alike who need respite from trauma and/or help for PTSD. I LOVE TEX!
Being home again is very challenging for Sierra, what with the reporters and the sympathy and pity. Her parent while supportive, can't make everything better.
Grover arranges for them to head to The Refuge a bit earlier, and while there they spend a lot of time getting to know each other. Although you do know he wants her to move to Texas.
This is all just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. I think I was screaming NO for a bit. Sierra shows incredible strength and initiative, there is no doubt that she and Grover are meant to be.
While I hate saying good-bye to this series, I loved the epilogue which not only wrapped up some things but also teased at upcoming books, all of which are now on my 'Want to Read' list.
Thank you, Susan, you never disappoint!

Grover rescuing Sierra was such an emotional read, the connection they forged was clearly so strong and the way they fell so naturally into being a couple was amazing. How he would clearly do anything she needed to make her happy was coming off the pages and he managed that super fine balance between overprotective alpha and amazingly loving boyfriend perfectly.
Sierra was amazing, to sustain her mental health during her captivity and still be able to support the other captives was remarkable and the way it was written, not unimaginable either. The way she supported Grover during their time in the caves when he was the one with the experience and skills to survive it painted such a great picture of the person she is.
The Refuge….can’t wait to visit again, the characters we met were nicely set up for the future series and I am intrigued to learn more about their, clearly traumatic, pasts.
Always a treat to read her series epilogue’s , SS doesn’t shy away from aging her characters accordingly and giving us a glimpse of what their future lives have been like. This one is no different and it’s interesting to see where they go in terms of family etc.
My one negative about this book is a really specific point and to be honest is possibly personal to me as her book is my standout favourite in this series, and that’s the epilogue point about Kinley and PND. If I’m honest the comment about Lefty not knowing if he would come back to find it was all too much for her left me cold. It’s just not the relationship and couple I thought they were and it felt uncaring and like he abandoned her which was absolutely not the relationship they had at the end of their book.
Despite that this was again a great read from SS and one I look forward to reading again when I no doubt do a whole series reread in the next year or so.
Susan has teased us throughout the whole series with Sierra, with snipits of her time in captivity, making us desperate to get her story. And it truly didn’t disappoint!
What a brave selfless badass she is! She really made me cheer for her the whole book.
I loved the description of the refuge - it made me want to find somewhere like that to hide out
And just like that another series is finished. I can’t cope.
Susan you just keep knocking them out the park - pun intended 😜
It was great to meet old friends from other series and catch up with their children too, thinking Annie!
I have loved this series and cannot wait for the next one, highly recommended.
I am absolutely gutted this is the final book in the series, what an awesome series it has been, bonus... we have a crossover here to introduce the next new series which I am sure will be just as good as this one.
