Review #17,498. You won't read this, but at least the stars I gave it will count. Brilliant film.

With 17,497 reviews, my thoughts on the movie are unlikely to ever be read. So I'll just say that this is far and away the best movie I've seen in several years. Excellent acting. Believable telling of the story (No 'McGyver' qualities here). Incredible cinematography. Hold your breath and clench your muscles scenes. Shocking outcomes. And genuinely moving moments, with few words, that drive home the cost of all of it.

Can't Wait to See Part 2 This Year

Anyone who works in any type of law enforcement will be able to relate to the characters in this film. I was able to identify and see myself as Blunt's naive, wide-eyed girl wonder who strives to do good in a dangerous world that she has just dipped her toe into. Looking back now, decades later, it's a wonder I wasn't killed. It's amazing how over the years you slowly transition from more of Blunt's character to be harder like that of Del Toro's character without blinking an eye.
Obviously written after someone talked to those who work in the field, this movie is an accurate description, although not as scary(believe it or not) as real life. I enjoyed the storyline and acting. Felt like I was back in fieldwork. The characters I've worked with each and every personality before and wouldn't be a bit surprised to learn that there are actual people behind those characters somewhere.

Solid Unflinching Look At The Underbelly of CrossBorder Trafficking And Personal Justice/Vengeance
Verified purchase
Brilliant, hardcore, unflinching journey along with the federal agencies and the minds of its members. Solid script, every action sequence served with precision. Character acting of every single character of the highest levels. Now this is what an action/suspense movie should be. Stayed focused from beginning to end. Reminds me of a quote from the book Dune by Frank Herbert "Justice? There is no justice. We mke our own Justice, live or die."

How action should be.

Fast paced thrill ride. Emily Blunt plays a rookie FBI agent who's had nothing but success in her early career. Directing SWAT teams as part of a kidnap response unit, she's found the people she's looking for every time. Or so she thinks, until she's recruited for assistance in a shady CIA mission that has her breaking international law and violating civil rights. She becomes increasing uncomfortable with what she's asked to do and the limited information she has on the overall objective of the mission. She's been great at her job, unfortunately for her, in this new world of covert government action, she has no idea what her job even is. We see all the action through her eyes, kept in the dark from what is really going on the entire time.

If you're looking for a thrilling action movie with gritty realism and solid acting, this is it.

A Well Crafted Story
Verified purchase
This was a surprisingly good movie. The story builds around "inter-agency cooperation" between FBI, CIA and military units. This task force is out to clear up the drug traffic in Juarez.

Emily Blunt plays the part of the FBI agent assigned to the task force. For without her cooperation CIA cannot operate on US soil. Considering Juarez is a border town half the story is US set, half in Mexico.

The acting is well above par. The writing, both story line and dialog are exceptional. This is certainly a movie anyone who enjoyed Narcos would enjoy.

Amazing cinematography, Great Pacing, Intense. This movie sticks with you.

Great cinematography and pacing paints a view of the lives of those on the receiving end of the orders in a drug war that tears countries apart. If you're a fan of thrillers and political intrigue, you'll love the story. For a movie that could have been a little more feminist, it falls down a little, but overall is a great film. If you're the type of person that needs to stop every few minutes to have things explained to you, then you might not like this movie, as it doesn't treat you like an idiot, and expects you to know a little bit about the world.

This movie stuck with us for days. It was intense and thought provoking. Disturbing, sad, but also enlightening.

Like the Movie, Hated the 4K editing.
Verified purchase
I liked the movie itself, BUT who ever did the 4K editing doesn't know what there doing.
I have a LG 4K tv and a Toshiba 4K Blu Ray player. Most of the movie looks good, but there is one scene that looks horrible. With 4K, it take a lot of data to keep the picture looking good as see with one picture posted at over 31 meg per second data transfer. The next major scene in the movie has a explosion going off and alot of dirt in the air and alot of motion with the camera and the data transfer goes all the way down to 3.1 meg per second cause the picture to look grainy and start showing color bands.

S**T editing and a lack of attention to detail.

I also found out the movie isn't even recorded in 4K or higher and they had to do a upconvert.

Sad....

I have no idea what the high ratings are for

The characters are completely unsympathetic. Maybe that's because there is zero character development. There is no one to root for in this movie. Her partner is a shadow of a character. Brolin's character is just a jerk. The entire story is nonsense. An experienced FBI agent who knows nothing about the drug war in the area that she has worked for years. The antipathy between the law enforcement and military factions makes no sense. Del Toro's character as a ninja like super assassin is totally made up. Cartel killers are brute force murderers with no finesse and little skills above the ability to maim, torture and murder with no remorse. This movie is a fantasy. And not a good one.
