One of the best euthanasia (sort of) movies

First of all it's a Danish movie and with great Danish actors and superb performance.
The story itself is one of the best euthanasia (sort of) movies I have ever seen, not only how the story unfolds, how everyone's feeling is told or hidden for that matter, but there is resolution in the end, though not so rare for such stories, in a heartfelt way that touches your will and its existence.

Beautiful

I loved this touching, nuanced movie. The cast was excellent and the filmmaking mature. It's a movie for viewers who have an interest in human behavior and an appreciation for complex, not-easy-to-pigeon-hole characters who behave and speak in a realistic, believable way.

Though dubbed version is a little harder to follow, much better than English/American version. Seemed more realistic, less glitzy.

Out of the Shadows / A Family’s Gravely Ill Matriarch Opts for Suicide / Honest, Incisive, With 1 Major Flaw
3 generations of a family have reached hard-won consensus that Esther (Ghita Norby), it’s matriarch, suffering from a punishing degenerative disease, will take her life at the end of a final family week end. The story is deeply sensitive, intimate and credible. It is well-acted by an accomplished cast, and all filmmaking elements are cohesive and solid. Each character’s relationship to Esther is moving and honestly defined. As the time nears, and totally credibly, love, loss and fear intensify, resolve wavers, and ambivalence, on the part of 2 characters, comes into play. A final plan by one feels totally wacky and unlikely, and, for me, derailed an otherwise insightful, penetrating storyline. So, I’m a bit ambivalent in my recommendation, but I still think, overall, it’s an important film, whose sensitive and controversial subject matter is well-delivered.

Subtle but also with great depth. Perfect pace too
Superb acting and gripping story. Family dynamics, life and death, character study... All these elements, but not "in your face"... Subtle but also with great depth. Perfect pace too. Deeply moving and thought-provoking. Highly recommended!
