The Silversmith (David Wolf Book 2) Kindle Edition
But refusing will prove deadly.
Deputy David Wolf has waited sixteen years to follow in his father’s footsteps and be appointed Sheriff of the Sluice County sheriff’s department, headquartered in the ski resort town of Rocky Points, Colorado. But instead of the dream job, he's offered something else.
When Wolf refuses, and a dead body shows up with clues pointing to Wolf as the culprit, he soon finds himself chased by his own department, along with a special forces hunter with a lust for blood.
In this action-packed, suspenseful second installment in the David Wolf series, Wolf must draw on all his skills to survive the onslaught in the high Rocky Mountain forest. And if he wants to clear his name, he'll have to piece together a mystery unearthed from the ground that could do no less than rewrite his own past, and ensure his future among the living.
This is the second book in the action-packed, mystery-thriller David Wolf Series of 13 books (and counting).
If you like twists and turns, unexpected plots, characters you'll love, those you'll love to hate, all set in the harsh and beautiful mountain west, then the David Wolf Series is for you. Join the thousands of already hooked readers and see what the fuss is about.

This book that takes up where FOREIGN DECEIT left off and it did not disappoint my expectations for this series. The new Sheriff is appointed and that was the compelling start of this action-filled story. I was caught up in this book from that point on. As the suspense built, I could not turn the pages quickly enough (yes, I stayed up after bedtime to read this one!). I knew who the bad guys were, they make that pretty clear, but I did not understand the relationships that caused each person to do what they did or act the way they did.
I am already a fan of this series and I hope it continues to be as great as it has started out. Well done, Mr. Carson!
AfterThought: In spite of being a kindle unlimited member (this author's books can be read free when you borrow them through ku), I bought this series (after reading the first book) to have in my permanent library. Yes, that is a recommendation!
I appreciate a good mystery that, although it has evil, does not go into gory, extended detail about the evil perpetrated. Also, I do not like a good book being spoiled by pages of descriptions of sex acts; it adds nothing to the story and makes the reader wonder if the author is describing his/her fantasies. I appreciate that the first two books of this series do not contain either, and I hope the next 8 do not either.
If you're looking for a couple of good reads, try these two books. Now to start the third in the series...
I enjoyed book 1 and thought I might not read book 2. Then I read book 2 anyway. I like the main character because he's smart and thoughtful. But I didn't like him in this book because he came off as vengeful. This book was a heavy hand in action and could have used a firmer hand in details. Because there are a lot of books in this series, I'm guessing I'm fairly alone in wishing for a slower-paced version of David Wolf.
Good news is that this is a quick read for an airplane ride or a beach day.

I didn't get a chance to leave a review on the first two books about David Wolf, they both deserve 5Stars, as well.
whilst they could all be read as stand-alone, you really do get more out of the stories if you read them
in the order they were written. So I am glad that with this book (2) I am right up to date, so far.
I really like the character of David Wolf - honest and fair, but admitting to his faults. He is horrified not to
be elected Sheriff - his burning ambition - and he and the new Sheriff hate eat other's guts. But soon Wolf
has more to worry about and has to go on the run in the mountains, while at the same time trying to figure
out who wants him dead and why.
I enjoyed the book and would recommend the whole series. There was no sex, romance or foul language.
4 star rating because I was disappointed it had finished!
