So he had an affair
Verified purchase
So he met a girl with terminal disease and felt compassionate about her then fell in love with her mom. The movie went at length how the life has changed for the girl's mom and how she left him at the end, with no concern of his own wife and son, his own family. He could have invited the little girl into his life and his family and show compassion and love for her. He allowed himself to be carried away. A movie to promote an affair gets a lot of 5 star reviews, what's wrong with people?

Ugh!

I couldn't feel sorry for a guy who abandons his wife and son because of someone else's sob story and because he was just a crazy guy in love (with another woman). Adultery is hard to make sympathetic.

It is as good as I remember
Verified purchase
I remembered this movie from when I was in high school and have been trying to get a DVD or Blu Ray of it for awhile. When the Instant Video download because available, I purchased it right away. It is as good as I remember. Dudley Moore does an wonderful job in this serious role. Mary Tyler Moore also does a great job, but I am a big fan of hers. I do not like reviews that tell the story of a book or movie like a book report (because then why do you need to read/watch it, right??? eye roll button please), so I will just say it is a touching story and a tear jerker. So if you like those kinds of story lines, you will like this movie. I am so happy this movie became available for purchase.

Superb Film That Will Move You
Verified purchase
A really delightful, poignant, heartbreaking film. I watched it after Mary Tyler Moore's passing. The acting is just first class. Dudley Moore surprises with his winning turn as a politician. The young girl in the film is simply superb in every aspect. I was moved to tears by the end. Six Weeks manages to still feel relevant today despite being made in the early 1980's. Don't let a somewhat sad ending keep you from watching this film. So much better than many of the movies made today. Rich, realistic dialog carries the film. And, you can see here why Mary Tyler Moore won the Oscar for her role in Ordinary People. She's a wonderful, subtle actress. This is a superb little gem of a movie.

They Dance into your heart

I came across this movie years ago and for a long time it was very hard to purchase. Mary Tyler Moore, Dudley Moore and Katherine Healy are amazing. My favorite scenes are when Mary Tyler Moore and Katherine Healy dance together and when Katherine dances the in The Nutcracker. It was because of this movie that I began taking my daughter to the Nutcracker at Christmas. My daughter is grown and now she takes me!

I actually watched this film to reacquaint myself with Mary Tyler Moore's performance, something 20/20 did not address. One cannot expect complete coverage from the likes of David Muir or Katie Couric, so I went in on my own here. Yes, the story is more chimerical than real, but the art and philosophy in it is more than satisfying if you are female. The ballet sequence is beautiful. The ingenue who played the role of the dying dancer is poignant and humorous. Death is treated as more of a passage than a tragedy. I recommend revisiting this film if you have time. I was a devout fan of MTM, and I will miss her!

I didn't know about the title of movie when it was released in 1982. I don't remember seeing it but several years later, I have heard about Six Weeks little bit. I wanted to see it. Finally. That movie is a very good and heartbreaking. The music in the background is beautiful. I love seeing The Nutcracker! Katherine Healy is a wonderful dancer. I didn't know she was a famous back then. I'll never forget Dudley Moore. He was a funny man. Dudley did get another Christmas movie, "Santa Claus: The Movie", 3 years later. I guess Dudley loves Christmas very much. LOL!

What happened to Katherine Healy???

That 'little girl' is a 49 year old woman now. Hard to believe huh? I guess she liked dancing more than acting because thats what she chose in the end. She can be found on facebook and apparently has her own dance studio. She was quite the prima ballerina from what I read. She still looks like that sweet little girl in the face at 49. You certainly can't mistake her when you see her. She's working as a choreographer. I thought this movie was sweet, not spectacular but very moving.
