About Skip Yetter
Skip (Frank) Yetter is a retired journalist, business executive, emerging chef and avid traveler.
His second novel, A Reasonably Viable Marriage, was released in May of 2020. From the book's back cover:
Ben and Brenda Tremblay should have been enjoying the twilight years of their life together.
They should have been spending languid days with their daughter and grandchildren, supported by a universe of friends and savoring quiet hours in a home filled with mementos.
But Brenda suffers from Alzheimer's disease in a care hospital, a cruel, final obstacle for a couple who survived profound conflict and unthinkable loss in their 63 years of marriage.
Ben is haunted by memories as he struggles to cope. Yet those same thoughts inspire him to savor the remnants of what Brenda's overbearing father once dismissed as "a reasonably viable marriage," as the principles of their wedding vows - love, trust, honesty, fidelity, openness, acceptance, partnership and commonality of purpose and values - are tested again and again.
A Reasonably Viable Marriage is a story of love and loss, mistakes and forgiveness, and the human capacity to defy the forces that threaten what matters most.
In 2010 Skip quit his job as a commercial news service executive in the United States and, with his wife, Gabi, moved to Cambodia. Using Phnom Penh as a base, the couple volunteered, learned the Khmer culture and language, and traveled throughout southeast Asia, writing about their experiences on their blog at www.themeanderthals.com.
From 2013 to 2019 Skip and Gabi traveled throughout Asia, Europe and Central and South America, often house sitting for vacationing homeowners, learning new cultures and cuisines, and enjoying the nomadic lifestyle. They unpacked their suitcases in 2019 and now live in East Sussex, UK.
His first novel, Rilertown, was released in October of 2016, the first in the Jake Ketcher series.
Rilertown is a murder mystery set in a racially-torn western Massachusetts city. Young reporter Jake Ketcher encounters corruption, conspiracy and murder as he starts his career for the Rilertown Post-Recorder, breaking first one major story and then another as he struggles to balance a demanding career with an equally challenging personal life.
Murder. Conspiracy. Corruption. Jake faces more than he imagined as he struggles against powerful forces that threaten his career, relationships and his life.
Skip and his wife, Gabi, co-wrote Just Go! Leave the Treadmill for a World of Adventure (2015). In addition to A Reasonably Viable Marriage and Rilertown, he is the author of KISS Kooking (2015), a cookbook collection of family recipes and those he has collected from travels around the world, and fantasy children's books for his grandsons Lasky, Tal and Ollie.
He is currently working on his third novel and drafts of sequels to Rilertown featuring protagonist news reporter Jake Ketcher.

Blog postWriting a novel was never on my bucket list. In fact, it was something I didn’t want to consider. There were too many talented authors, too many wonderful stories, too much competition in the book universe– why bother? Then a man named Skip suggested I give it a try. “You have your own voice,” he said. “Why not use it [...]5 months ago Read more

Blog postSometimes we just need a bit of beauty, a reminder that despite the conflict, and crises, and challenges each of us encounter in every corner of the earth, goodness exists, and beauty soothes. Nature is a certain antidote for whatever ails us. Enjoy this glimpse, a photo I took of a sunrise off our balcony in Eastbourne, UK, overlooking the [...]6 months ago Read more

Blog post“There are millions and millions of cells in the body, and each has a purpose, a life and a value,” my friend Nghiep once told me. “Each contributes to our ability to achieve life, intelligence and wisdom.” The objective and reward for all this expended energy and activity, he said, is pure and simple: happiness. And the ultimate source of [...]9 months ago Read more

Blog postThe city was ablaze. A stabbing incident in a troubled part of Holyoke led to an immediate police response. They descended upon The Flats, trawling block after block in squad cars. One patrol stopped and roughed up a suspect in a public show of aggression. The cops called it reasonable restraint. Neighbors called it a beating. The city erupted. The [...]11 months ago Read more

Blog postIt’s nearing closing time, so the hunt accelerates. Our eyes peruse the tangle of glass, metal and wood, scanning the confusing landscape for the perfect addition for our new home: a table? Lamp? Chair? Suddenly, there! A four-foot, beveled-edge mirror, tucked behind a stack of cruddy paintings leaning against a wall. Experienced bargain hunters like us know to look beneath [...]2 years ago Read more

Blog postThe glass doors slide open in the Phnom Penh airport and a face stands out in the crowd. SomOn’s. Eight years ago—almost to the day—the same man greeted us with the same enormous grin. In 2010, Skip and Gabi Yetter quit their jobs, sold their home, gave away most of their possessions and bought one-way tickets to Cambodia. They wanted to see more, do more, experience new things and break away from their traditional lifestyle. Just Go! is about that journey. It's about discovering ways to make a change-whether it's quitting a job, moving across the world or finding a new direction. It's about developing tools, plans and checklists so you can re-chart your life. Written by two career journalists, Just Go! is a self-help book and a true-life storybook for anyone considering, procrastinating, researching or thinking about stepping off the treadmill to explore new horizons.
