I Don't Like the Lead Character, Ronnie

I go along with the others who only gave this book two stars (and that's being generous). While I normally like Lori Foster's books, this one has a dislikeable female lead character, Ronnie, who is beyond weird. How many women, no matter how bad their background, believe in one night stands ONLY? I don't like her strong personality, find her very irritating, like Jack a lot more than I like her, and he could do better than Ronnie.

It's bad enough, what she does for a living, collecting weird junk for a couple of weird brothers, and why Jack even likes her I can't figure out.

I can do without pages and pages of "sizzling" sex, too.

It's taking several days to get through this book, and fortunately for me I don't have that many more pages to go. I read the first book in this series but can't remember a thing about it--maybe that's just as well. Maybe I'll skip the third one.

Give me a romance which is sweet and doesn't have dislikeable female lead characters and I'm happy. Not happy with THIS book.

Not as good as Book 1

I absolutely loved Book 1 of this series. This one was really pretty much the same, but more over the top with the bad guy, the collector guys, the situations, and Ronnie's angst. In fact Ronnie's reactions actually got to the point you wondered what the heck Jack even saw in her. And somehow Jack's reactions weren't hot and sexy like Brodie's in Book 1. He just seemed a one-dimensional ball of emotion and niceness. That's not a bad thing, but it read kind of boring to be honest. It ended up being a chore to plod through. The worst part (to me) was the serial killer guy. He was almost like an overly evil window dressing until the end. And, Marge, that meeting with Marge was totally ridiculous. Anyway, I bought Book 3 with this one and I sure hope it's not the same formula as this one. I like the author's writing, but this could have been better. It had a feeling of desperation to be adventurous and thrilling.

With the second book in her Road to Love series, Lori Foster brings us a cast of familiar faces, adorable animals and a proof yet again what an incredible family this is turning out to be. We loved his brother Brody in Book One, and now we're getting to know Jack, and he's YUMMY! The connection between him and Ronnie is off the charts hot and his protective streak is coming on strong. Really enjoyed their story and am looking forward to what's to come!

Ronnie Ashford is dreading the job offer she's being forced to make. Her bosses are like family to her, so she can't let them down but she just feel like their worry isn't warranted. She can do the same great job she's been doing ... without adding a man to the mix!

Jack Crews thinks it's his lucky night when a stunning woman starts giving him the eye across the room. She makes it clear she wants one night ... no names, no promises. How was he to know the mere sound of his name being tossed out by a buddy as they walked out of the bar would bring their time together to a screeching halt? It seems she's the woman he has an appointment with tomorrow ... and he's the man she's determined to get to turn down the job offer she has for him. Yeah, not happening.

I read most of Lori Foster's books and this one was a TOTAL dud, especially after reading “Driven to Distraction”. It was basically a duplicate of that book with a few tweaks to make it different. It was a total disappointment. I really grew to despise Ronnie and thought Jack was a schmuck. The villain's plans for Ronnie bordered on being just too gruesome and creepy for a romance novel. I know Charlotte's book is next; I'd love to see a book for the mom too - assuming Charlotte's book isn't another disappointment.

Slow Ride is the second book in the Road to Love series. Like most of Lori Foster’s books, this one does not disappoint. You will fall in love with Jack Crews! He is a natural protector, much more polished than his brother, Brodie. Jack uses his “well-mannered civility like a weapon, bludgeoning people with it!” Jack treats Ronnie with great care, always analyzing how to respond to her prickliness.

Ron (Veronica/Ronnie) Ashford is an independent, quick tempered, very confident and courageous woman who relishes pushing Jack’s buttons. Always trying to make Jack lose some of his politeness. Many of Lori’s characters are animal lovers and will not stand by and watch an animal be mistreated! The animals in Lori’s books are just as lovable and interesting as her heroes and heroines.

The attraction is immediate between them and sparks fly. All of Lori’s characters are interesting and lovable, from Howler, the dog Brodie rescued, to Charlotte, their assistant. The reader can’t help but fall in love with Jack, who is always jumping to the defense of helpless maidens, innocent cats! I received this ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

It might be a bit of a chic flick romance but this series has been so well paced & written.
I'm in love with Lori Fosters style of writing.
Two brother's have a courier company that can sometimes garner dangerous competitors for the items they transport.
They first book in the series was Brodie & Mary's story - it was reassuring to see a man written to love her voluptuous curves and ample bussom, & yet this book was the opposite female figure (Jack & Ronnie) she is quite insecure about her waif like shape & flat chest ...written beautifully I'm sure Lori has touched on what many women consider flaws.
There just don't seem to be actual men like this in real life I'm afraid 😣
Much more I could write but I'm onto my next book 😋
There is one more novel in this series yet to be released, CAN NOT WAIT!!!

I enjoyed aspects of this and there were some fun ideas, but the darker tone compared to the previous book wasn’t for me. I found the two mains a bit hard to warm to and the plot was a bit too sinister. In my opinion it doesn’t really fit with the other two books in the series and whilst I definitely liked the book I’m not sure I’ll ever reread it. I would recommend it if you want a small-town, enemies-to-lovers romance with a prickly heroine and a slick hero.
