Yaya Touré is an excellent example of the global appeal of soccer. He represents both Africa, with more than 100 caps for the Ivory Coast, and Asia, since he plays club soccer with China League One’s team, Qindao Huanghai.
Mané was part of the 2012 Olympic team for Senegal that advanced out of their group only to fall in extra time in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion, Mexico.

I appreciated how the author was able to include in each brief chapter unique elements of the players' backgrounds, professional journeys and abilities. The book gives readers a better understanding of the players' lives and what shaped them. For example, I learned that as a young adult Virgil Van Dijk had a mysterious illness related to his appendix. That illness nearly killed him. Also, I learned that Raheem Sterling is originally from Jamaica and moved to England when he was 5 years old after his father had been killed. Luka Modric overcame the trials of being a refugee from war.
In addition to the main profile chapters, there are “honorable mention” profiles that are shorter but also enlightening about star players and some highlights about past legends of the game.
All in all, the book is an interesting and informative book. In the back of the book, there is a create your dream team sheet that is a nice attribute to the book. It is fun to read about the origins and journey of the players listed in the book. I recommend this book for any soccer fans.
Some of the bios are several pages long, detailing how the players overcame obstacles and practiced hard to be the best. Other spotlight or honorable mention bios are one page long with stats and the main features of that player's career. There are also pages that give information about the rules and regulations of pro soccer, common terminology, fun facts, and diagrams that show the pitch and positions.
The best thing about this book are the emotional stories of the players, how they fought hard, relied on their team and their families, overcame racism and hatred, connected with their fans, and won glory in their sport.

The information on each of the key soccer players can be motivating. The stats are interesting along with the fun facts. The chart for creating a fantasy team can be a fun activity for both kids and parents. There is an extensive list of references for anyone who wants to do further reading.
Overall, I expected the book to be different but would recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about soccer stars and their motivation.
