When I first began the first book, I almost speed reading. This book brings with it the possibility of our propensity to forget how fragile our society is and revert to barbaric animals. The books shook me to my core. We take for granted how truly uncivilized we as humans are. There are brief moments of humanity in its finest hour, but the flipside shows the ugliness and anarchy when we fail to remember we can achieve more through correlation and partnership. These books are a scary reminder that we live in perilous times when ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!

As a veteran, a prepper, and someone who has been paying attention to our government's lack of concern about hardening the grid, I've read many books about man-made EMPs taking us back to pre-electricity, but this is the first I've read about our beautiful, deadly star causing it. A very real threat, and very well imagined by Mr. Richardson! Going off in search of more of his books now!

A satisfying "conclusion" to the series, save it isn't really THE conclusion. The majority of the main characters are still living and still stuck in a challenging situation. The villian, Meiner, is not conclusively dead and a large portion of his militia is still intact, so that threat is still extant. One of the main hero characters has died, but it was a noble, heroic climactic death; which is really the only acceptable way for a hero we readers have become attached to to die; and the effects of that passing reserve to be told as well

I enjoyed the characters and watching their growth and determination to survive and protect those they love, I especially liked the fact of the author providing links for our further research on the subject and the valuable info on survival tactics , knowledge and skills needed to survive without modern technology. A family's amazing attempts to survive a collapsed society, following a major disturbance of Earth's magnetic field. The Cantrell family and friends find courage and strength. The support from a neighbor and a militia they survive a major battle with opposing rebels, but their future is uncertain. Great writing!
