David lives in Co Galway, Ireland and grew up in Manchester, UK. A lover of the written word since childhood, David always harboured ambitions to write and is finally doing it. He has a passion for all genres and is an avid fan of fantasy, sci-fi and horror in particular. After studying film, David's writing has been described as visual and vivid, with readers able to clearly picture scenes in their minds.

David admires noir, and tries to add that flavour to most of his work, finding the ambiguity it lends to be a thrilling aspect of creating a story. He has published works across a number of genres, and will continue to write until he can physically no longer do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, but memorable...gets the full five stars
By K. B. Elijah on June 4, 2021
I hardly ever give indie-published books five stars. And that's not for want of effort or passion on the part of the author or publisher, but normally there's something missing from the final product, some polish or pizzazz that can't quite be defined. But after only a short amount of consideration, I'm declaring that In Solitude's Shadow by Eerie River Publishing gets the full five stars.

You wouldn't believe that David Green has only been published for a short time - his writing is smooth, refined and articulate, and the worlds he weaves into being are nothing short of phenomenal. This book was a rich opening to the Empire of Ruin series, a tale of a handful of ragtag heroes doing their best to find the "right" path against a backdrop of genocide, racism and prejudice, and the intersection between politics and magic.

The cover is epic. The title is epic. And the story itself defies the idiom by proving that you should indeed judge a book by its cover, because that is downright epic as well. I found myself pleasantly surprised by much of it - having expected a generic high fantasy, for Green to hit hard by expertly dealing with dark themes such as drug addiction, estranged family relationships and child slavery, as well as the exceptionally subtle humour and overt political commentary in the chapter "introductions", blew me away.

I strongly recommend this book to any lovers of fantasy. It's a short, but memorable first instalment from an author who is going places.

"The Shadow Sparker had risen from the road, limbs buckled, neck crooked, flesh and cloak perforated by splintered bone and stained with blood. Red dripped from its mouth in a thick stream. It jerked like a marionette as it inched towards Vettigan, black tongue lolling across its lips."
