Upon the easy hookup with the provided optical cable and first listen I was a little disappointed but knew speakers and especially subwoofers need breaking in time and after a few days now sounds great.
This soundbar sounds as good as some of the soundbars selling for up to 600 dollars that I've heard at best buy. There is also no sound delay that some people have experienced with other soundbars.
The voices are nice and clear and the bass while perhaps not subsonic can get loud and provides great impact to movies, enough to really startle you at times. I've also played concert dvds and blurays and can confirm music sounds good as well.
If your able to as with any subwoofer you should experiment placing it in different locations in the room to see where it'll sound best where you'll be sitting at.
At 279 dollars this is well worth it and a definite best buy at 198 dollars.
Cons: hdmi arc feature turns on tv randomly.
The unit as a whole was a bit larger than I expected. Felt a bit overkill for my 42” tv in my apartment. The quality seems good and I liked how simple it was to switch from tv to Bluetooth.
The major headache is that if connected via the hdmi cable, it would randomly turn the tv on. Using the optical cable avoided this issue, but then it would require me to use two separate remotes; which feels very counter intuitive to what a soundbar is supposed to be (easy).
I have a Samsung tv and assume it’s some propetiery issue. If you search for this you’ll find many people with the same issue and both companies haven’t done much to address it.
Bottom line is if you’re planning to use the hdmi arc connection do some research and make sure it plays nicely with your tv.

Shipping was very fast, and Amazon solved my issue very responsively.
Update: After several months of use I discovered how to better use the Soundbar at night. If you switch it to “night mode” on remote but also turn the subwoofer down a lot, you can find a good level for late night viewing. Voices are clear and sound is crisp just without the cinematic hum and booms the bass normally provides. It’s almost impossible to find this if sub is turned up. There is a volume adjuster for sub on the remote indicated by - and + beside SW.
Side note: The remote is very nice, it’s slim and light.
I didn't bother trying optical or analog since I wanted to be able to control the soundbar volume using my TV remote via HDMI ARC. If not for the sound issue, I would've kept the soundbar as it was a good price.
I ended up getting a Polk Audio Command Bar which was also on sale from another brick/click and mortar retailer for another 50 dollars (open box, but essentially brand new) which works great with my TCL 6 series and the Polk subwoofer just blows the Sony sub out of the water. The Polk sub literally shakes the floor when at maximum bass. Not a knock at the Sony sub which would've been totally sufficient as there's plenty of low end thump if you have it turned up.
Appearance-wise, this a very nice add-on. The lower profile and width looks good sitting on a stand or mounted on a wall underneath the TV.
The audio quality here is exceptional on the high and low ends but suffers some in the mid-range area. This isn't entirely unexpected as the drivers located within the bar aren't large enough to provide really great mid-range audio and the subwoofer isn't capable of doing any better in this range either.
On the upside:
► The audio that it produces is good, very good, just doesn't have the depth it could if there was better mid-range quality. It just isn't as immersive as it could/should be at this price range.
► There is no distortion that I can detect even at high volumes.
► Low volume is ok but again, better mid-range frequency reproduction would help.
► Blue Tooth paring was fast and painless. Reconnecting later is also very fast. BT range is the same as any headset I use.
► While it comes paired with the subwoofer, if pairing is required later it's quite easy to do and the manual does give details this function.
► For installations where the TV's own IR receiver might be blocked, there is an IR repeater built into the bar, a very nice idea that overcomes a problem that I have encountered in the past.
► The remote is well built and streamlined instead of looking like another button loaded pancake on the coffee table this sleek look is a nice change.
► The manual is quite informative and well laid out.
► There are a number of audio options to suit pretty much any viewing I might do including one for listening at night which reduces the amount of bass so its less likely to disturb other people in the home.
On the downside:
► I find that there is some lag, about half a second, even when using the optical cable. This is something I've not experienced previously with any soundbar, even the cheaper ones with simple composite inputs. There is enough of a difference that it's obvious when watching anything where someone's lips can be seen moving.
► There are no buttons on the bar itself so don't let the puppy chew on the remote.
One thing I appreciate here is the wireless subwoofer link. Every other system I've had was wired. Not having to run a wire to the sub makes placing it so much easier. I haven't checked to see how far the link will be workable but right now it sits about 5 feet from the bar and there are no issues.
Ultimately, based on performance and features, this is a higher priced option for a mid-range system. If the mid-range issue and audio lag was fixed I would have no problems giving it 5 stars when compared to other similar priced mid-range options.
