A new demon lord has crossed the Rift, and says his queen wants her statue back, the one I took from the previous demon lord. Then he proposes a trade. You can’t trust demons. They lie, they cheat, they steal. They prey on humans. But unless I'm willing to walk away, it’s the only game in town.
The exciting conclusion to The Rift Chronicles trilogy.

Ahhh, I love a good ending, and this third book in the trilogy provided it amply.
It’s not a standalone, make sure you’ve read the first two books before this one.
Danica is very busy, trying to deal with the demon threat. She gets some very powerful help from an unexpected quarter, and we learn a lot about her father and his abilities.
The stories are all wrapped up neatly, with resolutions for the unfinished storylines, and if there are still unanswered questions, it’s not because there wasn’t a resolution.
A thoroughly enjoyable finale to the trilogy, and the only issue is that it leaves the reader hoping for just a little more!
Recommended for those who love urban fantasy.
As to its imperfections, protagonist Danica James fits into the genre all too well, in that she’s smarter, faster, braver and more talented than anyone else in the room. It makes the books predictable, and predictable is just about the last thing I’m for which I’m looking. I would consider taking off a star, except that, again, it’s part-and-parcel of the genre.
Ms Kingsolver’s imagination and writing ability make up for a lot. I read this trilogy in just a days, and will now go buy some of her other series
Danica is now a Police Captain but dies she get to rest on her laurels? No. She still has powerful mage families warring and a new Demon Lord in town with a secret agenda and an anti mage resistance group to deal with. One issue requires her to bend her morals to squash. The other issue takes a teaming up with people of different backgrounds and magic finding ways to work towards a common goal to defeat the demons which gets Danica something she never thought to hope for. A family reunion and a wedding are also included. With all her issues solved there is an open ending for another book!

The Bookster
I truly hope this is not the end of this series, but our beloved author has a penchant for three or five book series, and this third book feels like a conclusion.
Please prove me wrong, and return to this universe again.
Still, we have war, reunions, murder, and mayhem. A rollicking good read.
Without any spoilers, all threads were tied up, but in literally the most anticlimactic way possible and I had a really hard time finishing. Not up to par w this authors usual work in my opinion.

Danica has been made Chief of the Arcane Division of the Baltimore Police Force. She’s snowed under with missing persons reports and a new demon lord’s in town after the last one melted. He’s rather insistent that Dani hand over a statue of his queen but Dani is reluctant to give over something he so desperately wants.
As well as dealing with missing persons and increased demon activity, Dani is having to deal with poisonings. There is so much going on she barely has time to eat let alone see her boyfriend or call her mother.
I loved the other two books in this series and I wanted to feel the same way about this book, but didn’t. It felt like so much was crammed into the plot there wasn’t much room for the characters and how they were feeling. I believe this book would have been better to have been split into two and added more emotion and depth through conversations rather than the recitation of the story at full throttle, which is what the book ended up being.
In this book I felt like a lot of Dani’s relationships were pushed to one side in order to get everything done, which is understandable given the state of the Eastern Seaboard during the course of this book. I did think it detracted from the series as a whole though.
There seemed to be more about Kirsten’s relationship than Dani’s, which seems odd. I kind of wish the author hadn’t put Dani into a romantic relationship if they weren’t going to actually show how she felt about the man.
However, all that aside the plot crackles along at a fast pace and the story is great. I just wish the ending was a little less predictable and twee.

I enjoyed the main character and the action is thick fast.
Looking forward to future stories from the author.
