My mother said to me, "We should write a book for kids your age."
That was forty years ago. I was a twelve-year-old playing lots of Dungeons & Dragons, reading Karl Edward Wagner, Brian Daley, and Michael Moorcock. Jumping off the house to practice my ninja rolls was also a thing, but I digress.

This book is essentially a reset of the reaper saga. The book jumps around 15 years and has Cain waking up in an 'egg' and being reborn. The story continues as Cain attempts to reassimulate with his LAI and discover what happened in the interim. Everything we thought we knew maybe a lie.....
Cloning on a large scale is prominent and old friends need to be persuaded of the veracity of Cain. There are several battles, though typically without augmented tech (at least on Cain's side).

Bastion of the Reaper was a good story and perfect to end the series. I would have missed Cain but it was a happy ending. Where could be go from there? Well this book didn't take it to next level , it shot it past 3 levels! I couldn't put it down. Usually a series will have a character die each book or every other, but this took it a whole different way. Amazing. 👏

Cain wakes up to a new world. Everything is chaos. No friends, no support, no artificial intelligence in his brain. We are taken from a freshly open pod and zero support to reunions of sorts with old friends. The road is hazardous. Lots of action as well as some vulnerability. This was an excellent entry in the series.

This one was all of that but more of the latter and less of the action. The humour was previlant throughout
HAL is trying to come to grips with the situation he wakes up in and the planet hates him from the moment they see him
Hoping the series comes to an end soon, I think it has run its course and needs a finale
