I’m nowhere near fluent and just started learning this year but I’m grateful for what I’ve learned so far and excited for what I’m going to learn in the future.
My biggest piece of advice for anyone looking to learn German is to try and keep yourself motivated. Consume German entertainment. Watch German (Netflix has a few shows that are completely in German!). Listen to German music. Use this book as a guide and a supplement. Use other resources like Duolingo that can only enhance your experience - not lessen it.
And remember English has its own set of bonkers grammar rules, spellings etc, so keep that in mind when you get to a roadblock. If we manage to take our own native language for granted that surely we can do it with another. Don’t try to overthink the lessons and grammar rules. Let them sink in with practice over time.
Hope that all helps.
Danke und tschüss. :)
Lays it out in a straightforward manner. I could have saved myself 40 bucks worth of grammar study books, if I had gotten this one first.
I want to add, that this book will be most helpful to those who are not complete beginners in German, unless they have an excellent education in English grammar and structure first. Since actually teaching english grammar stopped in most American schools about twenty five years ago, this book may be confusing unless you first refresh your understanding of English grammar.
If you are studying through Duolingo, this book will help you identify errors in the program, and explain some things that both Duolingo, and Rosetta Stone expect you to learn through trial and error.
