I absolutely hated it. As someone who grew up watching spongebob I was disappointed in the choice of animation and the fact that they changed the background story of the characters. They claimed that sponebob, Patrick, squidward, mr.krabs and Gary all met at summy camp. But that completely contradicts many episodes in the show.
This movie is bad even if you watch it for free. It has nothing to do with other spongebob movies and it makes no sense. Didn't like the scene with the dream and human zombies, demon and Keanu Reeves in the movie. They probably had no idea how to get to 90 minutes and just used someone's dream and that person must have been on drugs.
We like the characters of the original spongebob movies and the ending was ok.
Watched this with my kids today. They grew up with Spongebob, and they were honestly horrified with what Nickelodeon did with this. It’s not the worst movie ever, but I don’t think there’s any way they would have gotten Stephen Hillenburg on board with this.
The latest SpongeBob movie successfully appeals to kids and grown up fans alike. It contains a lot of Gen X nostalgia (Snoop Dog, Titanic, etc.) but isn’t dependent on catching the pop culture references.
It even engages in high culture allusions to Dante’s Divine Comedy and the various hero motifs in literature. While its messages—follow your dreams and always be a true friend—are not exactly new, they are messages that bear repeating.
My eleven year old, who started watching SpongeBob a few years ago, loved it. SpongeBob devotees will thus want to see it. Even those outside SpongeBob fandom will probably like it. A solid four stars.
It was awesome! Probably the best SpongeBob Movie yet! (that or Sponge Out of Water). The only thing I ask is that you lower the renting price a little bit. Plus, I just want to see if anyone else noticed this: Neptune looks different in the SpongeBob Movie, SpongeBob the show, and SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run (not to mention his name turning to Poseidon) Anyways, It's a great movie and I highly recommend buying it if you love SpongeBob like me!
Incohesive plot, sporadic moments crammed into a 1 hour movie, 3 A-list actors for literally no reason. If you are a SpongeBob the movie (2004) fan, if you can, dont waste your time. The fact that they expect 20$ for a rental of this garbage is beyond me. If you HAVE to see this movie then get a paramount + free trial. I remember being so excited for this back during 2020 when select countries were getting a theater screening and then a netflix listing, so needless to say i was very disappointed. I can see that the directors were clearly trying to hit a broad range of young and older audiences with the scenes of this movie, in the end it left me wondering who this movie is for?
