About the author

Jocelyn Goodwin is a busy mom and the author of Spoons and Solids.
Having navigated early years parenting herself, Jocelyn knows that the idea of there being a ‘right’ way to parent is a myth. Her books focus on helping parents through the first 12 months of their baby’s life in a way that works for their unique family situation. Her aim is to simplify parenting and help parents raise strong, happy children with an adventurous and healthy attitude towards food.
The eldest of five children, Jocelyn grew up taking care of her younger siblings and realized at a young age that she had both a talent and a passion for raising infants. As a young adult, she dedicated her free time to babysitting and reading parenting books, quickly becoming a fountain of information and the go-to baby consultant for her friends and family.
A passionate cook herself, Jocelyn is committed to finding mealtime solutions for busy moms who want to provide healthy home-cooked meals for their families without spending hours in the kitchen. She is a firm believer in the idea that parenting should be fun, and she is dedicated to finding ways to make the journey easier for others so they can focus on enjoying the precious time they have with their children.
Jocelyn loves nothing more than to spend the weekend in the kitchen with her family and is always on a quest to expand her knowledge about nutrition.

That's what I love about this book and its author. The responsibility and manner in which we feed our children is of primordial importance, yet we often just the tick the box without administering the proper nutrition and guidance to them. In this case, you'll walk away feeling enabled, empowered, and not overwhelmed by the stress or burden of a chore. Rather, you'll be creating a healthy method of viewing and eating food in its true majestic form.
The baby-led weaning method in this book is a well researched guide that has easy recipes and meal plans that have been approved by a Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition, to ensure the baby receives proper nutrients at each stage. The book answers many questions parents have as they follow their baby’s developing skills to determine what they’re ready to eat, with flexibility and independence through self-feeding. There are many more tips, such as how to deal with gagging or choking, and introducing potentially allergy inducing foods. There are also web links for updated information and help.
We would highly recommend this book, especially for first-time parents as it saves the guesswork from the start. Just following the process lessons the initial anxiety of how to start and when to take the next step. What a time saver for busy parents, too!
Extremely easy to read and not overwhelming. This is the first weaning book that gave me the confidence and knowledge to give BLW a try. It is broken up into sections and very easy to follow if you are new to weaning or already have some experience. I constantly reference it anytime I need inspiration or hit a snag. The book is full of research and the author explains everything in terms I actually understand. It is rare to find a BLW weaning book that covers every aspect of weaning, including allergies, choking, nutritional guidance, preparation tips for busy parents, and how to improve spoon-feeding. My favorite part was the extensive lists of foods to offer broken down by age. You will be guided step by step on how to offer a BLW weaning meal from beginning to end. If you have been struggling with weaning or are super nervous about getting started, this book will ease your nerves. Every parent needs to read this. I only wish I read it sooner.

This book was a fantastic read, a real page turner and helped me to prepare so we could start the weaning process in a calm, safe & relaxed way. I like how the book shows how you can combine the concepts of baby led weaning & spoon feeding. Last night we started the weaning journey with my daughter and it went really well. I know that going forward I will be referring to this book for tips and tricks as we progress through the weaning journey.
