Editorial Reviews

"Capturing the hearts of little and big monster lovers, The Squeezor is Coming teaches two significant lessons: acceptance of others who are different and self-acceptance." - Erica Graham, author of the Talking Tales series.

**STARRED REVIEW** "This story is highly recommended for young readers, especially for those who find acceptance by others as a challenge."
-Bruce Arrington for Readers' Favorite

**STARRED REVIEW** "If you do not at least subliminally relate to the dreadful fear of imminent suffocation due to early and abundant familial displays of engulfing hugsmanship, well, then you've never been a child. And it is just this universal experience that makes reading this meant-for-children book so delightful, and its message so very clear. With professional writing and exquisite illustrations, a universal truth and message come to life through the graces of a monster. And if monsters can make friends with monsters, what's not left for which to hope?"
-Joel R. Dennstedt for Readers' Favorite

**STARRED REVIEW** "Far too many kids feel as unlovable as the Squeezor, and this story is for them. Benishek's droll and humorous story will please everyone in the room and maybe especially those adults who are still kids at heart. Matt Fiss's brilliantly grotesque illustrations make this book one to linger over and read again and again and again. Literally. It's that good."
- Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite

"Oh. My. Gosh. I'm SO in love with this one. . .from cover to cover. . .an absolutely perfect read!"
- Miranda Reads, top Goodreads reviewer

"A feel-good book that effectively mixes gross-out humor, a bit of monster-y horror, and sweet affection.

"Benishek offers a funny and sweet book that's good for reading aloud. It features lively prose and references that will appeal to adults as well as kids, as when the Squeezor watches the TV show
Game of Bones. . . .[I]llustrator Fiss' illustrations have plenty of variety and expressiveness without overdoing the monsters' scariness; clever details expand the storytelling, such as the darling, if fanged, bunny slippers on vampire Bitey McBitesalot. The book is also available in a special edition for dyslexic readers, printed in an easy-to-read font." -Kirkus Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh. My. Gosh. I'm SO in love with this one.
By Miranda Reads on November 24, 2018
The Squeezor, a furry little monster, is a delightfully friendly little fellow...well...sort of.

He's friendly...but he doesn't look friendly.

"The trouble is, the Squeezor doesn't look like he wants to give you a hug.

He looks like he wants to eat you up!"

The poor Squeezor becomes very lonely and doesn't know what to do...until he comes up with an absolutely brilliant idea.

And thus begins the Squeezor's quest to make people like him - not by telling them he's good but by showing.

Slowly, ever so slowly, people begin to listen.

I loved this one from cover-to-cover.

The storyline was so sweet (but without falling into the goody-goody trap that so many children's books do!).

I loved all of the fun details Benishek puts in for the Squeezor - like how he watches Game of Bones or the oddball items at the Apothecary (anybody up for scale softener? It comes in Regular, Premium and Unleaded!).

All the little adventures that the Squeezor goes on are adorable - from reaching the top shelf for a little old monster to helping a vampiress sleep by closing her curtains.

And the illustrations - WOW! I really feel like children's books depend so heavily on images - and this one does not disappoint!

For example, all of the items in the Apothecary were so intricately detailed to look at (there's even greeting cards with little sayings (What? and You're Nice and I Like You are my faves!).

This is truly an excellent novel - an absolutely perfect read!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Book of the Year (and One of My Faves EVER)
By Lemon on October 16, 2018
If you and the kids in your life live for alliteration... like spooky banter... LOVE macabre monsters... and adore great illustrations, you will want to read this book!

The characters are so alive that I often find myself wondering what they're up to right now...

Kids will love meeting Graywick (the Apothecaryterror)... Bitey (the scared [yes, scared!] vampire who wears BUNNY SLIPPERS)... Grumpypuss (who looks like a bundle)... and the full cast of marvelous monsters who inhabit Ghastly Gigapolis -- and ostracize the big-hearted Squeezor (who through his kindness eventually succeeds in making friends with everyone).

This book is SO fun to read and every page is a delight for kids' imaginations -- ESPECIALLY the 2-page spread of the sweet stuff available at the Apothecary, including fang paste ("in Squelchy Spearmint, Phlegmy Peppermint, and Cadaver Cinnamon")... claw cream... and deodorant ("in Furry Fresh, Savoury Scale, and Feathery Fluff scents").

I had the great good fortune to read this story about a year before it was released.... and then the BURNING ANTICIPATION of waiting for it to come out before I could get my mitts on a hard cover copy. Once you get this book for your kids, they'll wish they had The Squeezor's wrap-around-you-twice arms so they can hug you double, while holding this book tight.
