The Last Brigade series is a MUST READ, unbelievably good. It reads like a movie in the post apocalyptic genre with a whole lot of sci-fi and military history thrown into the fiction. Oh, and let’s not forget a little bit of political thriller element.
After the Collapse of America, the survivors are battling those who seek to enslave them (think The Postman). A carefully selected group of military personnel had been put into CHILLS (Long Sleep) to be awakened, if and when needed, to revive America after a Collapse. When they are awakened (think John Spartan in Demolition Man, but a whole force, not just one man), they are led by General Nick Angriff. As the main character, he is a new American hero, who should appeal to a wide demographic. Women will love that he is a strong man who loved his wife and daughters. Men will identify with his struggle to do the right thing against overwhelming odds - bucking a corrupt system in the beginning and fighting to protect innocent lives throughout. And there is a strong cast of characters both men and women.
There are multiple forces out in the post-American world, but also enemies within Operation Overtime. As in each book, there are more new revelations. We lose some characters that we have come to love. And we may or may not see the demise of one or two characters that we love to hate, but you have to read to the end to find out.
After reading each book, you anxiously await the next installment. They seem to build and build with military battles and even love stories, while getting back stories on the characters and origins of the Operation Overtime. If you are reading this review and have not read any of this series …… the good news for you is that you will be able to binge read and not have the agony of waiting for each new book.
