The plot of Stargate SG-1 picks up a year after the conclusion of the events recounted in the original feature film. It follows the present-day adventures of SG-1, a military team from Earth. SG-1 and a dozen other SG teams venture to distant planets using a fictional alien portal known as a Stargate, which in the series is housed in a top-secret United States Air Force military base known as Stargate Command (SGC) in the underground Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In the first eight seasons, the mission of the SG teams is to explore the galaxy and search for alien technology and allies to defend Earth against the Goa'uld, a snake-like parasitic alien race that takes humans as unwilling hosts. As explained in the series' backstory, the Goa'uld had transported human slaves from Earth to other habitable planets across the galaxy thousands of years ago and now pose as gods of Ancient Earth mythologies, particularly Egyptian mythology. SG-1 eventually learns that highly evolved human-like beings, known as the Ancients, had originally built the Stargate network millions of years earlier, before they used their extraordinary powers to ascend to a higher plane of existence, after which they pledged to not interfere in the lives of other species. The Ori, who belong to the same race of ascended beings as the Ancients but who use their powers to subjugate other species, forcing them to worship the Ori and to believe a doctrine of religious fundamentalism, assume the role of the main antagonists in seasons 9 and 10.

That said, the packaging leaves a lot to be desired, the fanfold design is ok, but everything is boxboard, and you're left to slide the DVDs in and out of little half-sleeves, which will scratch your DVDs if you're not super careful. There's also no indication on the boxes about where each season starts, or even which side the first box or second, you have to check the actual DVDs for this information.
The DVD menu systems also need some work, I frequently have cases where I put a disc in that I was partway through, and selecting a new episode starts me up in the previous episode's end credits. Getting around this involves going into the scene selection for the new episode and picking the first one. This may be my players, but it has happened on both thus far, so I have my doubts, especially when every other TV show I've played has worked just fine.
That said, for the price, it's an excellent buy. I may buy a bunch of good sleeves and ditch the internal boxes, but for a 10-season show, I can't complain too much.
This extensive library is well worth revisiting time and time again.
The box itself is beautiful, modelled after the Stargate and Egyptian art. The inside has a big accordion of cardboard sleeves that hold the discs. These sleeves have rough edges and barely enough room to hold the discs. This makes for a VERY tight fit of the 55 discs which leads to most of the set being incredibly scratched. I had to return two box sets to amazon while mixing and matching sets to ensure I kept the discs which were least scratched. I now keep the discs in a CD binder I purchased to avoid further scratches. I bought this set a few months ago and now I am on season 8 only to find that one disc freezes during the last 10 minutes of a very important episode. I have tried cleaning and buffing the disc but nothing changed. Now I have to find the episode digitally in order to avoid having to buy season 8 separately just to see how that episode ends.
Avoid this set. Acquire the series by any other means.
